St. Mark's School Reputation?

Hello, I am a current day student at St. Mark’s School, an ISL boarding school. I am curious about what other prep school students, teacher, parents, and alumni think about the school. If you could sum it up in a few posts, please do so on this discussion.

In my opinion, SMS is a boarding school that is rapidly modernizing and moving away from the traditional boarding school that it used to be. With the establishment of the STEM building, various programs emphasizing diversity and tolerance, the Global Citizenship Institute, and the hiring of many new teachers and faculty members, SMS seems to be a school on the move. One of the main details that separates St. Mark’s from other boarding schools is its congenial community: Although not as academically or athletically prestigious as Middlesex, Groton, or St. Paul’s, the atmosphere of St. Mark’s is extremely welcoming. This is not to degrade the academic or athletic programs, which are exceptional especially considering SMS’s small student body.

This is what I gather as a student of SMS, but I was wondering what non-student’s who attend or attended other boarding schools think of the school. Is its reputation as a “tier 2” school a result of its lower average SAT scores and only decent college matriculation? Did it actually undergo a rough period in the 70s, 80s, and 90s? Can anyone answer?
