St. Paul's Essay Question

The Prompt:
Tell us about your current residential community, which may include your neighborhood, hometown, friends, family, and mentors. How has this community shaped who you are?

I’m having trouble understanding exactly what they’re saying as they mention is could be my hometown. Are they saying talk about where I’m living right now or can I talk about where I lived before?

I talked about a mentor from where I lived abroad

Pay attention to prompt:

But they mention hometowns and I haven’t lived where I do for long.

SPS is very mindful of being a community, and I suspect they want students who value that and want to be active and contributing members of it. I believe they’re trying to get a sense of the importance of community to you with this question. If you explain why you’re talking about your former hometown and not your current one I expect it would be ok. However, I’m not an AO so please don’t take my word as your final answer, this is just my opinion as an SPS parent.

Even if you write about your hometown, where you no longer reside, did it have a lasting impact on you? If your idea of community has been formed from your experience in hometown, and if it has continuously affected you, it’s still living in you, and I don’t see why not.
