Around 400 pages… but not a hard book to read. I can’t remember how long it took me… 4 or 5 days? If you kept at it you could probably finish it in 2.

A Thousand Splendid Suns wasn’t that bad! It was actually pretty good! I was able to finish it in 2 days without trouble. Of course, the story seemed hopelessly bleak 95% of the time, but the overall experience of reading it wasn’t totally painful. It was kind of like watching 'The Pursuit of Happyness" with Will Smith. I love that movie, but at the same time, it just gets more depressing the deeper you watch it until WHAM! the happy ending comes and he gets his dream job. This book was a little like that I’m not gonna lie, but im glad i read it. I talked to my mom and she said that it was pretty accurate about how the times were back during the taliban. Can you imagine being a woman and nearly starving to death because your husband has died and you are not allowed outside your house without a male family member? It really was educational to read, but yes, almost too depressing. hopefully that doesn’t sound insensitive…

Hey everyone! I can’t believe I have just found this place! lol
Anyways i’m going to be a new fourth former at SPS nxt year and i have a question…
If i’ve never played a sport can i just jump right in at SPS nxt year and play JV at something? It doesn’t really say on the sign up sheet…and um if i want to bring my own comfy chair into my dorm how would i do that? The website says i have to get approval first?

hey join the club of entering 4th formers!! haha :)

If youve never played a sport? hmm… im not sure. there are other options like fitness or club sports that you could join and learn the sport in, but if you don’t want to, I’m sure joining JV would be fine. which sports were u thinking about?
and as far as the sofas go i think a lot of people say to hold off on bringing one until u see your room and u see what your roommate brings so you can see if it will fit/ whatever. but i’m not totally positive on this…

Haha thanks MilkandCookies!
I was thinking of field hockey?? or cross country? idk they both sounded fun
i’m a gymnast so…
my parents are thinking of driving me up there and they want to bring the couch/chair thing
so i was just wondering if it would be wierd or something to bring a chair there w/o asking
lol

Most people wait until Parents Weekend to figure out:
-How much room they have?
-If you have a roommate, what do they want?
-Is there room for a sofa or just a chair, or both?

Rooms can vary. 3rd form, my son had very little extra space (Kitt), but the room opened on the commonroom, so there were chairs etc right outside his door. They did have a sort of foldable loveseat that came in two pieces. THEN, 4th form he and his roommate had a sofa, plus a love seat, lamps, a coffee table and an end table (quite amazing). So probably better to wait and see. If you have a roommate, you may want to talk to them in August and try to coordinate what you want to bring (lamps, decorations, rug, fan, printer, extra mirror, or whatever). Maybe some of the vacationing students can give you their thoughts before the end of the summer.

creative1: I tried to answer your PM, but your box is full. Let me know when you have cleared it up.

crayola- im playing field hockey!! its really fun. both FH and CC are good teams so either is a nice choice.

We know our roommates by august 1st? Or when we get there?

Should be 8/1 mpicz along with dorm and advisor.

Is the parents portal thing working yet? I can’t log in.

Not working on our end either.

Thanks Winterset that was really helpful! I am going to wait and talk to my roommate and see how the room looks like you suggested. MilkandCookies I went with field hockey! lol…i hope i will be ok, having never played before. goldilon and mpicz- my parents seem to be having trouble with the parents portal thing too.

It doesn’t matter what sport you selected on that sheet. You can always change it very easily.

yay! field hockey is really fun! and it will be fine to just start out- the coach is super nice and so is everyone on the team

Just wondering if anyone can sign into the parents portal through the username and password they send in he last package.

Haven’t tried it yet.

I still can’t log in – I’m thinking that they’re on break this weekend or w/e and’ll get it fixed on Monday. Hopefully.

has anyone gotten their math placement test? i only recieved my language one a couple months ago…and summer reading–is the list of what we need to read sent home?

i dont think there is a math test…the recomendations from your current math teacher helps them put you in to a class…also, its based off what you took the previous year.
