so if you signed up for a double, is it possible to have a triple? someone said you can tell who your roommate is by seeing if their vm is one up or below yours. I found someone like this but also another kid who has a different number but might be in a triple with me because theyre only three of us new kids in the dorm and usually when youre new you choose to have a roomie so basically could they make another vm line in a room to make a triple that is a different number from the other two already installed?

haha kudos for anyone who can figure out what i mean.

I was providing some info to people on PM’s, but maybe others want it too. Realize you can Google photos for many of your dorms from architects etc. I even see one of the path from Drury to Kehaya. FYI, Last year dorm sizes were as follows:
Middle - 34 students
Drury - 31 students
Kehaya - 32 students

I have been asked about those three, but will provide #'s for other dorms if people want them. I can also provide Head of House and advisors names, but some have changed over the summer. I can tell you that my son’s single last year was larger than his sister’s college double. We are all (me too) guilty of ‘gaming’ the system by looking up VM#'s. Soon the school will tell you if you have a roommate(s) and their names and contact info. So if possible, be patient. It will all work out.

I already figured out my daughter is in a triple in Ford. We asked for a double so I hope it is not too tight. There are 2 other 3rd formers in a double and that is it.

Okay here are the housing facts and the answers to some of your questions.

As you know SPS was popular this year, so the acceptance rate (yield) was higher than normal. Adjusting for graduates and students not returning (or being asked not to), there will be 535 students this coming year, compared to 524 last year. Last year there were more boys than girls (265 vs. 259), this year there are currently 4 less boys and 15 more girls (so 261 vs. 274).

There are No problems for the boys, but the 15 extra girls has been the challenge. They have created “triples from large doubles and a couple of doubles from large singles”. The decisions were ‘carefully made and reviewed by the Vice Rector, facilities and the Heads of Houses’. They are also ‘buying new furniture that will better fit in these rooms’. 21 new 3rd form girls and 3 new 4th form girls have been assigned to triples. The students for these triples were ‘carefully selected based on their profiles’.

So it was done thoughtfully and carefully, but you can assume no girls will be added from the waitlist and that unless any boys are added from the waitlist; they will have more space than last year. As an aside I know my son’s dorm had one study room used as a double last year to resolve a roommate compatibility issue. This year the boys will have some extra space.

Think that is all I can tell you. I am sure it will be fine. I ran into a friend tonight (actually he overheard me. I was a Prefect when he was a 3rd former) whose daughter graduated last year. She had a triple in Middle and Loved it.

Does this mean that they will accept fewer girls next year and maybe a few more boys to balance things out. I am sure the attrition rate is not the same for boys as it is for girls, but I have no clue who has the better “survival rate.”

My son will be applying. We were lucky and got one of the Columbus Day slots. It should be a stunning drive and we’ll probably get to see the school at its most beautiful.

The doubles usually have 2 different beds right…not bunk beds? I’ve never seen one. Also approximately how many posters can one fit on their side of the room without it looking “clustered”. Just want a rough estimate…

mpicz - the beds are separate but can be made into bunk beds. Many kids do bunk their beds to have more space in their room for chair/couch, whatever.

Wall space will depend on furniture placement & room size. If you don’t have a lot of posters yet, you can wait and see, rather than buying ahead of time. There is a poster sale on campus near the beginning of the year. You can also order from posters.com and have them mailed to you. It’s always nice getting mail. :)

My roomate and prefect for my dorm added me on facebook. I’m chatting w/ a prefect in my dorm right now, I think I’ll add other people in my dorm later. Anyone else getting friend requests from other paulies?

Hmmm, just learned there are 6 advisors in my dorm, only 3 who actually live in the dorm . . .

yeah i havent really gotten that many lately
how do you see who your prefects are? did the prefects just find you (and everyone from their dorm) on facebook?

My prefect & roomate just found me on fbook, so I don’t know about the other prefects unless they add me on fbook also. My prefect already knew what room I was in.

Elsewhere I gave in and posted the 2010 Prep Review statistics. I have done my best to look at all relevant statistics and not cherry pick. The bottom tine is that the Top 5 on their list also (coincidentally?) have the highest average SAT scores of all boarding schools.
