Thanks hockeykid!!!

Winterset: Any sign of the 2008-2009 Record or idea when it will be available? Thanks.

goldilon - i’ve still got my harry potter dinner menu for last year, and I plan on laminating it and keeping it forever.

Old1 - The Record doesn’t usually come out until Winter sometime.
Sarum - Swimming in the pond is one of the great things about life as a SPS student.

Describe the 1st Night Dinner?

Maybe someone should describe what was special about the dinner for parents and others and say why it reminds you of Harry Potter? As you may know, there were actually two graduates named Harry Potter (oh and one Voldemort!).

Thanks, Creative1

What is the record?

goldilon-I have not heard from my d yet and would really like to hear more about this harry potter like dinner.

1st night dinner? Really cool. A broomstick (nimbus 2000, of course) was hanging from the chandelier. Every person got a wand, and I think the student council were dressed up as Mad-Eye Moody, Dumbledore, and Professor Mcgonagall. There were four long tables, just like the book. There was a sorting hat that a few students sat under, and the students were sent to dorms by the hat. I can’t remember the menu really but it was something like pumpkin pastries, butterbeer, pumpkin juice, muggle snakes for dessert, etc. All the while they were playing HP clips in the background.

emdee – that sucks. I have no service here myself, and still haven’t used the prepaid card so it’s hard to call. I think I’ll use my roommates phone tonight.

The SPS site has an article about new students, 17 photographs and a video of a student being shown around. (https://www.sps.edu/podium/default.aspx?t=6183) You may see someone you know.

In line with A Thousand Splendid Suns, the first Conroy Speaker (9/25) will be Rory Stewart: A knighted British author and academic. He formerly served in the British Army and in the British Foreign Service, where he worked in Indonesia and the Balkans and, most famously, as governor of a province of occupied Iraq in 2003-2004. He is known for his book about this experience,The Prince of the Marshes, his epic 2000-2002 walk across Afghanistan, which served as the basis for another book, The Places in Between. This book was a New York Times bestseller, was named one of the New York Times’ 10 notable books in 2006 and was hailed by the Times as a ‘flat-out masterpiece’. Born in Hong Kong, educated at Oxford, he is now a Professor at Harvard University.

Oh and this thread passed 100,000 views yesterday! 2nd most-viewed thread on CC. GO SPS!

Oh, I loved that book! After I was done, my son read it, loved it and wanted to have one of his friends read it, but my daughter grabbed it before he could. How cool that SPS had the kids read that. I thought it was very important and I know that my son found it very thought provoking, because he wanted to talk about it for days.

After being at SPS, I found out I’m just about the only one who loved the Odyssey and disliked A Thousand Splendid Suns.

First few days:

Dorm: Really cool kids
Roomate: Cool kid, a lot in common
School: Good people
Girls: Nice, lots of good options
Athletics: Made soccer varsity, I should be starting by the Andover or Exeter game, but idk
Teachers: Their cool so far, lots of HW but not hard to handle.

Overall I like the place. Good luck for future applicants.

Do you know what St. Paul’s acceptance rate is?

about 20% get in

mpicz- congrats on making Varsity soccer! Glad to hear you are liking SPS!

So…I am hearing there is plenty of H1N1 going around campus…already…

mpicz- Great news on Soccer! Exeter and Andover early in the season could be tough! Good luck. Thought I’d see one of your games… but I will be up on Oct 3rd and then again on Oct 7th. Both of those days you have away games. Darn. But I may sit in on some classes so may see you there. Has Alan looked you up? Tell him you know me (in case he has forgotten). Let me know if I can do anything for you.

bamagirl95 & keegancharles… Welcome. MPIZ is from Georgia. So you three are a southern contingent!

creative1-How many cases of H1NI so far? Are the kids very ill?

This is a benign form of H1N1, so no worries. Date 9-16-09

Several kids in the SPS community have swine flu right now or have had it in the past week. ( I can think of at least 7 off the top of my head) Although none of the cases are very serious. (Nobody has been sent home that I know of)
