Teachers and advisors are suggesting/requiring kids go to the health center if they sound or look sick.

In my opinion the reason the flu is spreading so quickly at SPS is due to the the students refusal to go to the health center. Unfortunately the way they are treating the “swine flu” is by 3 or 4 days of quarantine. (basically alone in a room for 3 days straight) I have seen several kids around campus who are coughing and such but will not go to the health center for fear of spending three days in isolation.

Someone def tryed to I.D me and was talking to my friend after the soccer game tonight. Luckily they were thrown off by some coincidential masking of my identity! If u want 2 know who I am just PM lol, not a big deal.

But yea, i think I may have swiney! W.e though.

mpicz - how’d the game go?

mpicz…confused by your post; what do you mean? And, really, you think you might have the flu but aren’t going to the health center? You had a game on Friday night??? Aren’t the games all Wed/Sat (I thought that’s how all the preps did it).

Occasionally we have games on monday or friday, although you are right in that the games are usually on Wednesday and Saturday.

keyleme - yea dont worry about it, the person whos creepin will know what im talking about. And I dont have a fever, so Im not going, it seems like a cold/flu thing.

But yea, creative, we got 4-0’d by andover. It was ******** tho, all their goals were our mistakes. Exeter wednesday.

Oh, haha. I thought you meant a college coach was watching you. Are you a freshman? Congrats on making varsity and good luck against Exeter. My son’s team officially opens the season tomorrow. Can’t wait. He was sick last week too…sore throat mostly. He stayed far far away from the infirmary. No lockdown for him!

Yup freshy, repeat though.

Bad draw to have to play both those teams away.

Aha…same as my son, that’s right.

Does SPS have a traditional athletic rivalry with a whole day of contests like many of the other schools do?

In case you have not discovered it, every day the SPS website posts a summary of the morning Chapel Announcements. It is a great place to find out what your teens may have done or could do and gives you something to ask them about. Sign-in and you can scroll back over years of announcements, or go here: [St. Paul’s School ~ Parents](http://www.sps.edu/podium/default.aspx?t=9957) and you can see the last few days.

So, for example, Friday’s gave details of announcements including Saturday night activities like: “Spanish Night Club” themed dance , the movie “Seven Pounds” starring Will Smith (Will caused a car crash in which seven people die) and of course Open House at the Rectory (sponsored by Simpson House, meaning they work serving and cleaning).

A small sampling of Chapel Announcements this week included:

 • SAO’s and Tour Guides
 • Community service requirements
 • Saturday night activities
 • Birthday announcements
 • Choir and singing group tryouts (multiple)
 • The Cadmean Concordian Creative Writing Society
 • WSPS Radio
 • Debate Team
 • Math Society
 • Model UN
 • Driver Education
 • Religious services
 • New online weekend requests
 • Schedules for the pool, pilates, yoga, climbing wall, etc.

I tend to read these fairly regularly. You might try it.

No, SPS does not have a traditional rival and so no “rival school day”, although the schedule often has multiple contests against the same opponent on the same day. Maybe this lack of rival is because all sports at SPS used to be club only and by the time they started playing other schools all the natural rivals were already paired up. Whatever the reason, it doesn’t seem out of character with the school.
Across all sports SPS teams compete against a wide range of other schools including those in the ISL, Andover, Exeter, and others in the “ten schools”, schools in VT and NH (including some public), and the occasional jv game against a junior school. Even with those broad categories, I’ve probably left someone out.

News re: cancellation of Friday, September 25th Conroy visitor:
Our Conroy Visitor scheduled for Friday, Rory Stewart, contacted SPS to inform us that he has been called to an important British government meeting on Afghanistan on Friday, and cannot be with us. We will try to arrange an alternate date for his visit.

I am probably providing information overload… but we have done something new with the Alumni Horae (Alumni hour, the alumni magazine). It is now available as a “flipbook”. Pretty neat. [Alumni Horae: Anniversary Special Issue 2009](http://www.sps.edu/flipbook/alumni_horae_summer09/index.html). If anyone ever feels that their room is too small or they miss their child, look at page two. It is a mock up of an alcove (horse stall) I lived in when there was a second form! We had three walls, no ceiling, a foot locker and a curtain. Wow has life changed. Luckily the food is better too. Anyway, other nice articles that give you insight into SPS, their alums and why we are a tight community with some pretty amazing graduates. Since it is a Reunion issue there are a few too many photos of old people, but people like Richard Barth (Knowledge is Power Schools (KIPP), husband of Wendy Kopp, founder of Teach America) are pretty impressive. And I appear, but luckily you won’t find me.

Also, parents be sure to register for the Family Weekend and printout the schedule.

I see you amigo, Class of '44 right? Is that the missus?

All humor aside, do you know when Parent’s Weekend for 2010 will be? We find we can get a Room reservation at the place we want to stay a year in advance. After that it’s a toss up.

Typically, 3rd weekend in Oct. but could vary. Usually the new calendar card will come out Nov/Dec timeframe. Perhaps you can reserve a couple weekends now and cancel what you don’t need later?

Anyone else have trouble with reservations?

Let me know if you are having trouble with reservations. October can be tough because of the foliage viewers, as is Anniversary Weekend. Make those reservations early. Centennial fills up first, then the Marriott. Hampton Inn tends to fill up last. But there are also B&B’s, lesser hotels, and Manchester (Bedford Village Inn is spectacular, but 25 minutes away) and of course faculty members put up lots of people for free. Best bet for next year is Oct 22-23, 2010. But the schedule is not yet set.

Sarum: Thanks! Not even born until well after '44! :)
