… i want to go to sps really bad, i can imagine myself there as a student, athlete, and a member of the community

Good luck to you jyun212! It sounds like you have great football skills and the SPS team could definitely use them!

thanks creative… r u a current st paulian?

Parent of a Paulie, jyun212. If there are any questions I can help you with, please let me know.

The Student Council “Narnia” Winter Formal will be tonight, so I guess tomorrow will be a surprise holiday. The ponds must be in decent shape, because there will be “Skating on the Pond”, including time for pickup hockey. The dance goes 8:30-10:45 p.m. so check-in is extended to 11pm. The tradeoffs are Town hours end at 6 p.m. and no Intervisitation. They get to sleep in, have brunch and then skate or whatever. Temperatures will be a high of 41 degrees, amazing for mid February.

Two fun reports from SPS winter Inside SPS (parents) weekend…
The sap is running! Years ago almost all the elm trees that lined Rectory Road died of Dutch Elm disease and were replaced with sugar maples. Yesterday, the SPS Medical Director (Dr. Bassi), with help from students, faculty and others, tapped the maples. In all 75 taps were placed right through the middle of campus and buckets were hung (photos will be posted eventually). Dr. Bassi and his brother have all vats and evaporators to make syrup, and last year had students to his syrup house to see the process and make maple syrup bratwurst. This year they will have SPS syrup. Even the Rector tasted the sap, which started running as soon as the taps were hammered in. Several buckets hung the day before were already full, so spring is on its way.

The Rectory Saturday night , I wish I had a photo! As with most Saturday nights, there was an open house at the Rectory. As parents, imagine an average Saturday night where 350 teenagers drop in for snacks, drinks, and games. Their front hall told it all. Buried, absolutely buried in shoes and boots (+ sandals). Two of the student a cappella groups gave short concerts, some watched the Olympics, some tried to find floor space for games. Can you imagine that at your house every Saturday?

Top new is NH power outages. Peak wind was 91mph!!! Now another 5-7" of snow forecast and flood warnings. Glad for that new dam! News reports:

The NH Power company reports:

The school’s Push Page email to the SPS ‘family’ just reported

Do you know which six are without heat? Are the telephones working? Not that my d ever answers, but I would like to check in with her and her voice mail is not picking up.

I briefly reached my son, but the connection was useless. I suspect the cell tower is down. Voice mail in Nash is picking up, so apparently they have power. I hate to bother them unless it is important. If I hear more than the email blasts to parents, I will let you know.

Do the classrooms have power? Are the kids attending classes as scheduled? I tried to call my d but I think she has class. Tomorrow she has her last hockey game. It is away so hopefully it will not be canceled.

Okay lots of info for those that care. The kids are all fine and purportedly consider it a really fun adventure. Yes, Emdee, you daughter is without, but her advisor (SJ?) has a phone, call her. I am told Middle, Con-20, Armor and Foster are out (more to come).

TONS of trees and branches are down, especially some huge pine trees. Told it looks like a hurricane hit. No buildings affected. The meadow is flooded but that happens often. Dam is fine. Pleasant Street (to the hospital) is closed, so that and SPS are logically high priorities for repairs. All the academic buildings lost power, but I was told classes are continuing using ‘natural light.’ A character building experience!

Buildings with power include: The Upper (including dining rooms), all of the Quad, Nash and Kitt. After the flood, generators were installed for many key buildings. Thank God.
PM me if you need to talk.

MORE ON THE POWER OUTAGE
The houses without power are: Middle, Foster, Armour, Warren, Drury and Kehaya. (NOT Con-20)
There is a mandatory house meeting at 2:45 where students will receive the latest updates from their head of house.

Again PM me and you can call me if you need.

Character building imo.

Now only three dorms will have to move tonight. The school was able to acquire enough portable generating power to cover one of the buildings.

:) I suppose if we double up, we could add more applicants next fall :)

And just think how the power outage must help up on the [Green Cup Challenge](http://www.greencupchallenge.net/</a>)!

Which three are still out of heat?

I do not know which dorm was hooked up. But if you call your teen’s room and the answering service does not kick in, then he is homeless. Well, not homeless, more like a Huge sleepover for 90 kids! 15 of the 18 dorms now have power from generators. Classrooms may be a bit cold by tomorrow though.

None of the current students were there for The Great Flood, so now they will have the memorable Great Outage. My son reported “yeah, everything’s fine” and told me to enjoy our snow.

Girls from Middle are sleeping in Con 20 and boys from Drury are sleeping in Simpson and boys from Warren are sleeping in Manville…I know Kehaya’s power is back on as well. I know to me at least it’s not bad-it’s like one big sleepover. And from a student perspective it’s sort of like an adventure-the no assessments tomorrow is the best part. Also the whole dorm was up till the early hours last night (this morning) telling ghost stories and waiting for updates from security. Definitely a fun bonding experience, I just wish they would cancel class considering no buildings have electricity and heat…

sailor_chica ** THANK YOU**
Several parents have PMed me with questions. So your details will, I am sure, be VERY appreciated. Sleepover was my description, but FAR better to hear it from a student!
Please post updates when you can, I think people will really appreciate it.

Note: there is some info on the St. Paul’s School Parents Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/St-Pauls-School-Parents/78019196378</a></p>

Thanks Sailor and Winterset, I appreciate the additional details. I hope it continues to be a fun experience for the students.

What about the faculty and their families? Do they have power?
