I applied to St. Timothy’s School this year and my interview when very well. The school is truly a magical place and it was so very beautiful. I also have an A average and I’m 100% positive that my recommendations are excellent. I’m applying for a PG year and my SAT scores aren’t the best in the world ,but I made it clear in the interview that I want to build a stronger foundation for myself. I also mentioned a few colleges I plan to apply to if I am admitted. All of them aren’t the Ivy league, but fit is more important to me than anything. The main reason I want to take a PG year is to have the SAT scores to back up my excellent grades and other credentials. Does anyone have any experience with this school as a parent, accepted applicant, or student?

Our daughter applied to STT and is waiting to hear from them. A college classmate, whom I admired, graduated from STT. They’ve made great efforts to push a globalized curriculum, via the IV program, and perhaps more impressively, well beyond the requirements on the program.

Is this St. Tim’s in Maryland?

If it is St. Tims in Maryland, we are waiting to hear from them as well. But my daughter would be is hoping to get a spot in their freshman class.

Our daughter is looking at a place in the 10th grade. Yes, this is St. Tim’s in Maryland, just outside Baltimore. And I meant in my earlier post to write the IB program, not the IV program.

I guess we will hear on Thursday.

well, i wish you best of luck in the descision! I live around this area and must say that St. Tim’s is a lovely school – I have a friend who goes there, and two more who take riding, and they absolutely adore the school! I am surprised though that you looked at St. Tim’s, as not many have heard of it (which I believe is a complete crime). Out of curiousity, do you live in Maryland? If not, how did you hear about this school?

We live in Maryland, and had driven by the school many times. So when my daughter mentioned that she was interested in boarding for high school, we decided to take a look. Instantly fell in love with the school. And I have to agree, prior to our search, the only schools that we were constantly hearing were Madeira, Episcopal, Garrison Forest and Foxcroft. St. Timothy’s for us was just so charming.

I have some friends at Garrison, but I agree that St. Tim’s is far nicer all the way. What are Madeira and Foxcroft like? I’ve only vaguely heard of them…

Futureboarder, if you live near St. Tim’s area, I recommend you attend one of the boarding school fairs in the Baltimore/DC/Philadelphia, held in early fall. Many boarding (and day) schools come to a nightime event to offer preliminary info about their schools, and often you can meet an AO from the school and learn quite a lot. I saw your “hidden jewels” post and was going to say the same thing on that thread. In late summer, you can go to school websites and look at their “travel schedule” to find out which school fairs they are attending. Many of the schools you’ve heard about on these threads attend one of the fairs in these metropolitan areas. Once we know more about the schools my children are attending, I can offer more info. In the meantime, you’re doing the right thing by asking posters, but be sure to talk to friends and alumni you know as well. Good luck!

Thanks eastwest21, this is something I will be sure to look into! However, while I adore St. Tim’s, I do not plan on attending a school in Maryland - I was brought up a New England girl and have never liked Maryland as much for some reason. Boarding school fairs sound like a good way to aquaint myself with possible options, though. When you said you don’t know yet much about the schools your children are attending, do you mean that they are applying to schools this year, or you haven’t gotten a thorough sense of their schools yet? Just curious.

I researched boarding schools on the east coast and St. Tim’s in Maryland popped up. I have heard of Garrison Forest.

futureboarder- it’s nice to see another baltimoron :)/ marylander on here!

Same to you yellow22!

i think we are one of the most under represented states among our fellow CCers

Futureboarder, yes, I have two applying…and all kinds of notifications are coming in. Lots of highs and lows today. Looks like we’ll be waiting anxiously for one more notification by mail tomorrow.
