Stacked washer/dryer or combo?

Finally my washer is dead, time for a new one!

Our laundry room is small, I always want/need a sink.

There are so many modern, fancy, pretty W/D on the market, but I know, I need space for sink.

I’m thinking about a stacked washer dryer, or maybe a combo.

Does anyone can give me some suggestion?

Waht’s the pro and con?

We have a stack W/D at my medical office. We use cloth gowns and drapes, no paper. We do 1-2 loads a day, every day. It has been a workhorse. Bought it at Sears 11 years ago. Takes up less space, makes use of a small space. There are narrower, more compact ones and full size ones. And with the dryer on top, less bending over.

We have full-size front loading washer and dryer stacked on top. Love it!

One problem with combos - is that if one breaks, what do you do with the other? They don’t always wear out at the same time.

Combo…do you mean a one piece unit that has a washer on bottom and a dryer on top?

Those are usually very small capacities.

Stacked one can be full capacities.

If you’re talking about a one piece unit that the machine is both a washer and a dryer…put dirty clothes in, and they come out clean and dry…the problem is that you can’t get the “assembly line going,” so doing laundry takes longer.

My daughter has one of the combo washer/dryer units in her rental. I can not imagine having one for a family. The unit is very small and if you have clothes that don’t go in the dryer, you have to handle your laundry differently. Like above, laundry takes much longer.

I used a combo unit in England. Very wierd. Baked clothes rather than air tossed clothes.

My mother had several combos over the years because of space limitations, and our family loved them. The only risk is that when part of the machine goes bad, you lose the equivalent of two machines. If you go the combo route, try to talk with people who actually have that make/model so that you can get an idea about reliability and the skill level of the local repair people who might be called in to fix it in the future.

For people that have the front loading stacked washer and drier, how do you like it?

I’ve got a combination washer/dryer in a summer place and I don’t care for it–doesn’t wash well and the whole process takes forever. Mostly, I wash beach towels and that really is time consuming. I’d like to get a front loading stacked washer and drier. My oldest D and son-in-law have a GE (stacked washer/dryer) in the condo they’re renting and they love it.

I have Whirlpool Duets stacked in my Master Closet. They are not cheap but have huge capacities and are work horses. I have been known to ditch even new appliances that do not fufill their role of making my life easier.
