So I need to apply for my Stafford Loan ASAP (due 30 days before start of term!) , but my outside scholarships have not been processed yet by financial aid… So do I just put the max amount for the stafford loans now, and is it possible to change that amount later if FA removes a part of those loans with the scholarships??

Thank you

Have you FAXed the award letters to financial aid and requested that they be used to replace your Stafford loans, and what answer did financial aid give you? Are they replacing your loans or reducing your grant?

I did, but was denied to replace my Stafford Loans. However, it was a little weird. Two of them were processed, which added up to $2800. They took $300 of that from the unsub loans. The rest it seems they have removed my EFC (which was $2500). Now my EFC indicates a 0.

And they didn’t reduce your grant? That would be very good news. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

If you think you can cover all the expenses without the loans, I wouldn’t request them. If you are worried that you will need the loans, request the minimum amount you feel you need. If they credit the scholarships to your advantage you can try to change the amount later - and it will be no problem for the Spring semester - but if it is after about the first week of August the Fall amount might be too far in the process to stop it from funding.
