I also can’t wait to go up on Friday. Just heard from my S (it has been 5 days with no news) and he said they are all so busy. Yesterday the OTC performed their show for the campers and tonite is the Sneak Peek where each show performs one number so all the campers who will not be able to see some of the shows, can get a “taste” of what is being done. Tomorrow everyone sees the C show (drama) and then Friday it all starts.
Not to belabor on any point, but as a parent of a boy, in response to the gay question, my S is not gay, nor are any of his roommates. Last time he went, his other 3 roommates were not gay either. Yes, there were many boys (as well as girls too) who are gay but I do not think it is the majority. There were many romances-same sex as well as heterosexual, just like in any other place. Last year, at NYU Cap21 summer program, he commented that there were many guys who were gay and many who were not. I think the percentage was the same as in SDM. He also had teachers who were (singing teacher) and 2 male dance teachers (jazz and tap) who were not. So, I just didn’t want you to have the impression DefG, that you will be meeting all boys who are gay there, because it simply is not true.

I know. I dont have many guy friends(mom wants me to make some mroe so I can actually have boys at my sweet 16 lol)but im hoping to make both boy and girl friends. Audi I am glad your son is enjoying campa dn tell him good luck in OTC.

thanks DefG. I am sure you will enjoy yourself too and we will hear all about it when you return. Try to have your mom post what show you get cast in. RELAX and have a good time-this is CAMP!

Def Grav-to help answer your question about room assignments, this has been our experience with our D. Last year she was a first timer at Session III. She was 14 y.o and a rising freshman. She was in a room with 6 girls total, some were 14 and some were 15 and they were either rising freshman or rising sophomores. Out of the 6, they were all first timers except one who had been only once before. They all got along beautifully. She is currently at session II and is rooming with two of her roommates from last year (by request, they remained friends all year.) And yes, there are only 3 total in her room but don’t ask me why or how! LOL. She will be at session III too, I hope you two meet! I wish I could privately send you her name but I am computer-challenged and can’t seem to figure out how to do that! (Angst, if you read this, maybe you could send her my D’s name?) My husband and I leave tomorrow to head up to New York! Can’t wait to see the shows and hopefully meet some of my new online friends! Goodluck to all of you parents who have kids performing this weekend! We will be at “Aida” (as well as other shows we hope.)

ontherun. My S is in How to Succeed which is an A show and Aida is a B show so my husband and I are hoping we can catch a performance of Aida on Friday night. Maybe I will try to wear a brown headband so we can meet. If not, enjoy the weekend and we will compare notes when we return.

AudiB4-my daughter’s roommate (and now close friend) is in your S’s show (ensemble) and that is one we were hoping to see too! I will look for a lady with a headband. (I would wear one too but they don’t look good on me!) I am 5’3’’ with chin length, straight dark brown hair (and let’s just say “avg” wt, LOL.) I know this will only help a little but maybe we’ll find eachother!

DG: We finally put the pictures from Jekyll and Hyde and Our Time Cabaret onto this computer and I think I figured out how to send a few at a time in email. If you email me, I could send you some as promised.
Susan
PS…enjoy camp!

Everyone else who is going up this weekend…have a great time and see as many shows as you can and please report back! It’s my first “second” session in 8 years not going. I still know some kids there so want to hear about it.

Susan

Could ya look for my D’s missing tap shoe? Thanks :D

I can’t beleive how big this thread is. My mom said she will post my show if I show her how. Thats good news ontherun. What about I pm you and you can pm me back with your D. name.On the run does your D. know the lead girl in Big River. Shes my doctors D.

Soozie amd I emailing you on this site or regular email?

DG: I got the email through CC but it goes to my email. I will email you back on your yahoo account directly and not through CC. I’ll try to select some pictures.

Susan

Def Grav-if you can get a private message to me, I can reply back with my D’s name. We don’t leave town until around noon tomorrow.

I got it from Angst. Do the girls who are staying two session stay in the same room both sessions?

Soozie tbw I got all your pictures they were amazing and I sent you a reply back

Def Grav-My daughter is staying in the same room which I am guessing is standard practice.

okay awsome I’ll look out for her.I think the reson your D. has 3 people in her room is b/c she got the suite. Which can be good b/c its bigger or bad b/c it has no fans and a clogged toilet.

Did anyone hear any rumors about third session shows?

DG: Even if someone did, they should not post the shows here because SDM really likes to not reveal the show lineup until the kids have auditioned for their shows. So, it likely won’t be posted anywhere by anyone who respects that “policy”. Perhaps gossip will go between kids via phone or email or IM but not on a message board. I would just sit tight and go and be surprised along with everyone else. Ya know, more often than not, the rumored shows are not the ones they end up doing! And remember, some shows that SDM does are ones you may not be familiar with at all…but give them a chance…there are a lot of great shows out there and it is good to be exposed to ones that are not so commonly known.
Susan

Just a note to those parents going to SDM this weekend for performance weekend. I was staying at the Lodge, not my first choice because it is further from camp and more expensive, but all I could find was the Lodge because of an apparent dog show the same weekend. Well, on a whim, I called the Days Inn and they had a room available for both nights and I got out of my reserv. at the Lodge. Apparently things open up so all I am saying is you may want to try the Days Inn or Howard Johnson or some other hotel you had previously tried and was booked. Plans change and people cancel their reservations and things open up. Not that the Days Inn is all that great, but it is closer to camp and cheaper so I took the room. Good luck to all!

Does anyone have anything besides water, dance bag,fan I should remember to bring that I might not remember. Also how do they work jazz clas. I bought ballet shoes and character shoes with a 1 and 1/2 inch heel. My mom says for jazz you will eb barefoot but I dunno. I dont have jazz shoes jsut hcaracter and ballet

Hey Def! Just got home from SDM. What a great weekend!!! My S says your character shoes should be fine for jazz-you do not do it barefoot. He uses jazz sneakers and some kids used jazz shoes, but do not go out and get another pair of dance shoes, the character shoes should be fine.
It sounds like you have everything you need-fan, dancebag is a must. Maybe some of the moms of girls will have other suggestions but my S couldn’t think of any other necessity. Have a wonderful time!
