Oh – DD also said that casting people from the MTV show “Made” were coming to camp this session.

Are the “Made” people coming seeking people to cast? I wouldn’t touch that with the proverbial ten-foot pole … :)

I know, NotMamaRose… me neither. It struck us both as funny. I have teased my D, who is a confident preppy type with lots of friends, that perhaps she should volunteer to be “un-Made”!

(Did not mean that to sound “snooty;” sorry if it does…)

Mom4Life, it didn’t sound snooty. It sounded funny!! I have seen that program a few times, and it usually isn’t a flattering portrait in any way.

I have a good friend who was on MADE and it completely changed his life (not that it was bad to start off with, it just took a different path in the aftermath of the show). I am amazed that he’s the same kid from the before and after. And his show has actually inspired a bunch of people who know him to make changes in their lives, so I give him big kudos.

sorry for the off-topicness seeing as I have nothing to do with Stagedoor

My d heard about this during last session and she had heard that you needed to complete an application form in order to be considered for this show. (Would assume to be true… but who knows…) I’ve never seen the show, sound like it is not for everyone, but still fun. Stagedoor seems to always have something unexpected…how great!

In watching video clips online of other productions of Mack and Mabel, it looks like a fun show. My D said she’s the lead keystone Kop… this should be interesting…lol

She said the rehearsals are really fun but their choreographer is working their butts off in warm ups with crunches and pushups… lol

Sporti, I am glad to hear that “Made” actually changed someone’s life for the better. I am just skeptical about these “reality” shows. (For instance, I shake my head in wonder that anyone would let their kid be on “My Super Sweet 16” or whatever it’s called! Those kids invariably come off looking like spoiled brats who treat their parents like doormats. To me, that show is evidence that some people believe the old adage: Any publicity is good publicity.) I am sure that there probably are young people who are on MADE and make great contacts (especially in tv and show biz) as a result. But it’s always wise to remember that the raison d’etre of those shows is to amuse the audience and to sell advertising.

CollegeMom, sorry, I didn’t know that I couldn’t post links to other forums. Is it ok to post a direct link to the video of that production of Mack and Mabel?

Thanks.

KatiesDad:

The link to a video clip is OK to put up in this case.

Katiesdad, I saw Mack & Mabel at the Shaw this year and it’s a beautiful production of an extremely flawed show. Benedict Campbell’s performance is stunning. :)

Does anyone know when OTC performs for the camp? I know that they perform for the parents and other visitors on Saturday night, but isn’t there another show?

Unless they changed anything, OTC performs for the rest of the campers and also for the parents very late Saturday night of performance weekend…the final performance of any show of the session.

It used to be that earlier (Mon. and Tues.) in the final week of each session, OTC performed at the resort hotel nightclubs but they have discontinued that. The first/final performances of OTC is the final Saturday night.

***Unless anything has changed!

PS…as far as “other visitors”…it is very difficult for those who are not parents of those in the cast of OTC to see the show. Each OTC cast member is allotted a certain number of limited tickets due to seating. If there is availability after that, then other visitors are welcome and accomodated, but usually not that many “others” get in.

DD said today that the campers were seeing OTC tonight (Tuesday). Said that Players Ensemble was yesterday and it was outstanding.

My memory is fuzzy but I think during my D’s final summer (2005), this may have been a new change. Considering they had done away with the hotel shows and OTC just had one show the final night, and then that performance was so packed and turned away a LOT of people who wanted to see it as they had to fit the entire camp of campers AND the parents/siblings of OTC members into the Playhouse, it was like a pack of sardines…each cast member couldn’t always even get tickets for grandparents, etc. due to space limitations. So, I think they changed to letting the campers see OTC earlier in the week, and then parents/relatives/friends see it very late Saturday night. Players Ensemble is relatively a new thing. I recall it starting in 2005. It was put on very late Friday night, again for campers and parents of cast members. But now it seems they have made a change to do it for campers earlier in the week and allow more guests to see it late Friday night. It also is a good idea because OTC and Players Ensemble work hard and it is a shame to only do one performance, now that the hotel shows were taken away. So, now they get two each. It is nice that they created an ensemble by audition for the dramatic actors. I saw it the first year.

Is your D in Our Time Cabaret? My D’s fondest memories of SDM are from OTC. She just commented today in fact, as a rising junior in college, that her coed a capella group at college, which she musically directs, is like her grown up “OTC” group of a bonded “troupe” of friends performing together.

Yep my D told me last night that both the Players ensemble and the OTC were amazing. Going to try to see them both when I’m up there this weekend.
Looking forward to all the shows.

lol, it’s kind of amazing how my D who was initially afraid of being homesick before going, now calls and says " well, that’s about it Dad, gotta go…talk to you later… click" hehe…

Bump to say that pictures of the new theatre’s construction are on the site! It goes up this summer!

We dropped our D at SDM yesterday morning for her final session there before she heads off to college. This will be her 4th year there, and her 7th session. She was so thrilled to go back there one final time for her last hurrah!

The new theater looks beautiful!

We did hear some unofficial show rumours, but mum’s the word until Konnie posts the official list tomorrow morning!

Anyone else have a child in 1st session?

Brownsugar,
Good luck to your D. in casting  I have a friend at SDM this session, it is also her last year. Her initials are C.S.

Defying… did your friend attend SDM last year? What shows has she been in there? Perhaps she has SDM shows/sessions in common with my D.
