Do you have one in your house? How does it hold up the color? What color do you have and are happy with?
We had the carpet removed from my folks’ home and had then just apply a waterproof coating to the bare concrete. It’s held up well. We didn’t consider adding any color.
I thought to leave it natural initially. I think that would look a bit cold or modern. I am leaning toward reddish or tannish. The room is light filled with many south windows.
We have stained concrete in a cabin, in the basement with in-floor, radiant heating. I like the color generally. Biggest mistake we made: following the directions to wash the concrete with TSP first. Subsequently, we could not get the TSP sufficiently rinsed out of the floor (even with vinegar) and there are areas the stain did not adhere. (TSP is a strong base and the stain is an acid.) I would do the stain again, but without ever using the TSP - there really was no need.
The room where it’s bare concrete in natural is a storage room and for that it looks fine. I think if it were a room which had more people going in and out, I’d opt for a tan or something. I’d caution against too dark, as that makes spaces look smaller.
Our neighbors have it…they had it stained…AND polished. It’s gorgeous. A mahogany brown color. Really nice. The room has tons of windows and lots of light wood. The darker, polished floor is stunning.
I am also having light wood. @thumper1 It is a great feedback. I wasn’t sure if I should go with lighter color or dark. Do you mind asking your neighbor what color they used?
I’ll send them an email…this is a weekend home for them! It’s truly gorgeous!
We have neighbors with a stained stamped concrete floor. It looks a lot like slate.
@mathmom What color would you recommend? It’s a big bright room, about 8-900 sq ft with lots of windows.
If you are going for the stone look I like a slate gray, but I think color is pretty personal. I’m so sick of white kitchens I painted my walls (above a white bead board base) a green shade called celery.
If your walls are light, I think your floor can be dark if you like the look.
