I like white ( & off- white). I have white tile and fixtures in the bathroom. ( dark cabinets, white lace window curtains- it faces north)
H does like his metal though. He is a sheet metal mechanic by profession (although the last ten years he has been working with composites- ) he wanted to get one of those big ol gas stoves, but I liked the mid century looking electric ( now I am upgrading to a glass top)
Our sink is stainless, but it is also not big enough & I want to replace it with a stone sink, (although it may end up being white porcelain, as most of our major appliances are currently white enamel.)
Our small appliances are chrome though and bought to look good sitting on the counter. I especially love my toaster. :)

Stainless does show fingerprints and smears more than the pebbly white or black, I try to think optimistically and be glad I am seeing and removing all that mess ;)

I love my 12 year old stainless Dacor gas stovetop and dual fuel range! Not hard to clean for me. I did however cover my stainless hood, dishwasher and fridge with wood to blend in the kitchen. :)

I have no problem with white appliances except the manufacturers make it such a BRIGHT white. My woodwork (and soon-to-be-painted cabinets) is just barely off white on the yellow side, and white appliances seem to be on the blue side of the white spectrum. I recently replaced an exterior door. It is white, and the wood trim around it is painted white, but they are two totally different colors. I will be painting the door soon.

I think I am the only person left in America that still likes bisque (almond, bone). It fits in well with my out of style orangey oak woodwork and I am sticking with it.

Oh no! The poor people at HGTV will have to rewrite their scripts, as every prospective remodeler, home buyer or renter they showcase seems to repeat the words granite and stainless steel ad nauseam. Really, ad nauseam!

My mom also had white appliances, but we had pinkish fixtures in the main bathroom.
We had harvest gold and avocado towels and Tupperware though. ;)

I agree that white woodwork & white appliances would be too much.

I wanted my cabinet doors to be painted white ( with glass insets), but H insisted on making them out of birch plywood and verathaning them, so they are on the light yellowish side.( wondering what he’d do if I stained them darker) Trying to think of a color to paint the walls that doesn’t clash. To me kitchens are white or yellow- but I’m also thinking of a coral with white bead board wainscoating . ( or maybe blue)
my table & chairs are light maple.
I’ve also been collecting a ton of recycled glass tiles in blues and greens however that I was going to use in the bathroom, but could make a nice backsplash.

This tile is so gorgeous. <B

Our kitchen at home has black appliances, black countertops, wood cabinets and floors and red walls. I absolutely love the color scheme and plan to duplicate it when I get a house.

I’ve seen lots of shag rugs in local mid century modern furniture shops. I love the look. But isn’t it tough to keep clean, especially in the dining room??

Onward: I also have bisque appliances and natural oak cabinetry. I don’t like stark white appliances. Maybe we’re the only 2 left in America with bisque.

The company Big Chill makes some wonderfully colorful appliances. [The original Retro Appliance, Vintage Inspired Retro Refrigerators from Big Chill](http://bigchill.com/site/fridges)
H and I have been considering the purchase of a one story home to renovate and eventually move in to as retirees. Every time I step into one of the local classic bungalows I envision the purchase of a cherry red fridge and stove. One of the few product lusts that I cannot shake.

I have this thing called a vacuum. ;)

But seriously, no. If something gets spilled it shows much less than on a smooth carpet. I also have 3 dogs which takes care of any food dropped on it.

I have a stainless steel range that barely shows smudge marks and cleans up easily without streaking. I use Signature Polish and a microfiber cloth, suitable for any stainless steel product and a lot of other uses as well. Nothing else I’ve tried compares to this stuff - a little goes a long way.

Picture this. Kitchen with very dark wood cabinets, orange Formica counters and backslash, avocado green stove and dishwasher, almond fridge, mint green walls, mauve pleated blinds. Room was open to the LR/DR which had yellow shag carpet. Oh…and all of the switch plates were brass with eagles. Simply lovely…not.

By the time we left that house, counters were light grey, all appliances were almond, walls were an eggshell color, mini blind was gone, and the floors were red oak hardwood. Every switch and switch plate was replaced with white.

OMG…we had that exact same dishwasher (the front loader) in our first house. It was a pain to use because we had to wheel it over to the sink and hook it up every time we wanted to use it. We still have the 30 year old harvest gold refrigerator in our basement where it does a fine job of keeping the beer cold.
