Maybe they’ll be in court next once Apple’s done with Samsung.

I like stainless - don’t like white. It looks they’re coming full circle on this. Next up - avocado green followed by harvest gold and coppertone.

Cool. Then my almost 40 yo stove will be back in fashion in its lovely harvest gold! It still works well, still looks good and I can’t replace it with a similar model (45" wide with 4 burners and a griddle in the middle) so hopefully it will be back in style!

When we first moved into our newest house, it had been a drug and rental house for decades. Nothing had been replaced since the 70s. It was all gold and avocado and GROSS. I can never look at those colors again without shivers.

It looks like the Apple version of SMART House (if anyone ever watched that movie with their kids on Disney channel 10ish years ago).

I’m another child of the 1970s who grew up with harvest gold and avocado colors in the kitchen. Gawd! Never was impressed by the stainless steel fad, however. Sure, I’d love to have a Viking oven or Sub-Zero refrigerator, but I don’t want a kitchen that looks like the grill, fryer and hot tray at McDonalds.

I don’t like how we’ve gone from viewing stainless steel/shiny as the antiseptic or clean state to a plain looking plastic. It really seems like things have been going that way even when I go to the doctor or dentist.

I always believed stainless became popular as a transplant directly from industrial kitchens. About that same time the trend was for learning to cook like a professional and a Viking or Aga stove was a unique piece. Those first adopters probably were great cooks/chefs who used the heck out of their appliances.

The trend has now been so diluted that most of the “stainless” appliances out there are just regular residential units with plasticky (sp?) looking stainless skins. I have heard from friends that you have to be careful to match the stainless on your appliances because the finish and quality range so widely, even within a manufacturer’s line.

I am delighted to know that I am back at the cutting edge of kitchen fashion with my white appliances. I personally avoided stainless because of the difficulty of cleaning it if you REALLY cook, which I do (I have friends whose stainless still looks brand new after years - because they hardly ever cook!).

H and i were in Montreal for our anniversary. We wandered into a kitchen store and I just about fell over when I saw the price of one of the stoves. $53,000 Yikes. I don’t remember the brand, but it looked like one of those old enamel French stoves. I asked the sales person what type of person would buy this. ( I would be afraid to use it) She said most of these stoves are sold to folks that don’t cook, but like to show off their “toys” to people congregating around the kitchen island during cocktail parties.

As for color…I would like to see more of the coppertone/bronze look.

Every renovation eventually looks dated; every kitchen will elicit smirks and ■■■■■■■■ in 20 years’ time. I love to watch episodes of “My First Place” or similar HGTV shows where buyers obsess over the appliances, when in fact they are the least important and most easily replaceable aspects of a house.

NJSue, I agree. DH and I have reno’d two kitchens and it’s not that difficult. Especially replacing appliances.

This is a timely thread. Our appliances are approaching the 10 year mark and I think we will need to make plans to replace and rejuvenate our kitchen!

I at this point still prefer the neutralness of stainless over white neutral.

One thing I hate about the white/black/colored appliance services - especially refrigerators - is the bumpy/rough (not sure how to describe it!!) surface.

People who dislike granite and stainless never cease to snicker about how they are going to become so outdated someday. Well…uh, yeah. Everything does eventually become out of style eventually. That is not news.

The stainless/granite mania rose to heights not seen before in looking at houses/kitchens. Many people made bad decisions based on some cheap stainless/granite IMHO.
