Okay, so I’m applying to UW-Seattle, Gonzaga U, Whitman, Pepperdine, Emory, USC, Syracuse, and Marist…

I’m very involved in theatre–5 plays in HS (more than any other senior in my school). The theatre program at my school is fairly selective. I’ve won Best Actress of the Year two years in a row (sophomore and junior year–first underclassman (non-senior) to win).

I was my town’s Junior Miss and made top 6 with an interview award at the state-wide Junior Miss program.

I’ve also been heavily involved in FBLA, Key Club, Diversity Club, National Honor Society…

VERY low income, I’ve been raised by my single mother

So basically I want opinions on how to package myself in a distinct way. Thanks!

Well, I think that your stats would give a more complete picture of what kind of candidate you are, and thus how to package yourself. Also, if you want to be a drama major, the audition is really the only thing that matters.

But assuming you’re not, write an awesome essay. The best thing you can do is take a lot of time brainstorming, rewriting, starting over, etc. You might also consider a supplementary letter of rec from your drama teacher in addition to the required academic teachers.

Finally, don’t apply early decision. That way, if you get a worse financial aid package from your first choice school, you can negotiate by showing them other packages you’ve been offered, etc.
