standardized test scores appear to count more than grades

<p>The last poster (davidbruman123) asked how much UT counts standardized test scores and how much they count grades. According to their 2007 formula, they count test scores, class rank, and whether or not you took the required classes.</p>

<p>It is pretty sensible that test scores would be weighted a bit higher than grades granted the obvious inconsistencies across many schools and districts as to the methods of grading and qualification of teachers.</p>

<p>Well techincally grades aren’t considered at all. Only class rank.
I have no idea how they “estimate a rank” for kids from non-ranking schools though. I know a kid who went to St. Stephen’s in Austin who never got a numerical grade…they have like 7 letter grades (the best is “H+”), and no GPA or rank at all. What exactly UT does to determine who gets in is beyond me.</p>
