Well I was just wondering, how much of a role do standardized tests scores play into getting admitted into UCLA? Because I read on their website that they are now taking a more holistic approach during the admissions process.

Yeah well everyone on here is telling me I have a slim chance due to my 1860.

You have a slim chance because it is an 1860 and a 3.81 GPA. You can still recover if you have really good essays though.

UCLA looks pretty heavily at GPA and SAT. I got in with a 1980 SAT and 4.3 GPA and got in; not a stellar SAT score, but the GPA (apparently) made up for it. I also had like no extracurricular activities or volunteer hours and mediocre essays at best.

It would help if you post your scores/GPA. Also, what did you write your essays on?

My school doesn’t calculate GPA so i dont really know what my estimated GPA is. My SAT is a 1750. My EC’s and volunteer work is what i think really gives me a good chance. My essays were personal like my first one was about my grandmother passing away, and the other one was about an experience i had during my volunteer work when i worked with mentally disabled individuals.

According to this:
[Freshman Selection - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_fr/FrSel.htm)

They care more about how you can contribute to UCLA than your SAT score

Yea i read that, and hopefully they really do go about choosing people like that.

Any university who basis admissions primarily on SAT scores is not worth attendance.

Lol well said well said.

What is your major? If your volunteer work with mentally disabled people is related to your major, thats a big plus I’d say. It shows that you know what you want to do when older and did it while in high school.

Well i picked neuroscience as my first choice and i chose psychology as my alternate. So yea i think its pretty related to both.

Thats perfect, good luck.

Thanks bro good luck to you too hopefully we’ll see each other roaming around UCLA one day lol.
