Standing Out Ain't Ea$y

Hi,
I am currently a junior in high school and really want to better my resume as I finally figured out the career I would like to take recently. These last two years of high school, I was utterly convinced I wanted to major in theatre for whatever reason, and now I have finally decided I would rather pursue International Relations. I am looking at Barnard, NYU, Boston University and American, but as of now those are my tops. I was wondering what I could do extra curricular wise to stand out to both. What can I add/remove/improve upon? Below are my stats.

Hispanic Immigrant Female
40-50k income
SAT: do not know if I should take or not, considering I would like to go out East (from the midwest)
ACT: 26 (did not study and took beginning of sophomore year, going into it again with classes and prep so fear not)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.85

Extracurriculars:
Plan on starting both a GirlUp chapter and Care chapter in my high school, both approved by administration
Model UN
Environment Club
Diversity Club
Sexual Assault Awareness Club
Volunteer Outreach Club
Drama/Thespians
Fall Musical Lead and Spring play lead
Improv Comedy Captain
School Newspaper
Link Crew Leader
Volunteer at a Multicultural center
Selected for my county’s rape crisis center as a Youth Leader for creating positive change and eliminating rape culture
Intern in my local Town Hall
(None of these clubs have a particular leadership role associated with as they are all usually led by teachers)

Freshman year: advanced biology, Honors English
Sophomore year: one year advanced math and chemistry, honors english
Junior: Honors Physics, Honors English, A.P U.S History, A.P Psychology
I also take French classes at a local university (U.W Madison) and plan to study Russian next summer with Rotary.

You have so many ECs. I would focus on really demonstrating leadership in 3-5 and only doing the ones you really enjoy. I know you say most of these are teacher-led; however, it’s more about what you do than the title. There’s only 10 slots for extra curricular activities on most college applications anyway.

Cut down on your ECs, join the few ones that you care about, and try to do everything you can in those few ECs you’re in.
