I do believe he has, but the tests cannot be used to draw conclusions considering the tiny (and biased) sample pool.

So I was thinking about this for a while recently, and I might actually apply to Stanford SCEA. Does anyone know what SCEA admissions have been like in the past few years?

Cruel for some, rewarding for a select few?

^haha nice answer

I’m applying SCEA too. You know sometimes you just gotta say what the ****, make your move.

Not done by me, but it was done in the exact same format: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/651345-race-college-admissions-faq-discussion-3-a-50.html#post1062681634.

^ Thanks for the link :)

Ouch, does International Asian still count as Asian? =

Edit: Rather, how should an international interpret that data?

^ Most internationals will be in an even worse boat, especially those coming from a major Asian country.

Does Australia count as an Asian country? Its Oceanic I suppose…

ahhhhhh ok so i saw a lot of talk about scea admissions on here so i thought id talk about it since i was accepted through early action. Ummmm well, do it i guess? You’re going up against less people so the acceptance rate is higher. The one thing i will say in general is when applying make sure you relate your enthusiasm. I think too many people try to show how great a writer they are and forget to show how unique a person they are. If you read the pamphlets and stuff stanford sends, its all about showing how you can provide diversity to the campus. Not in skin color or religion but in the things you can do. As I read somewhere when you write your essays and look back and them ask yourself if anyone else couldve written the same thing. The answer should be no. So as a word of advice in your essays, try to show yourself as who you are outside of class, not inside. Stanford doesn’t want a bunch of smart people with no social skills. It wants to have a diverse group of people that will go out into the world and be able to change lives through communication. The essays in my opinion are the most important part!!! My stats were good but i thought id be on the chopping block for sure so make sure you make your essays unique and maybe even quirky. GOOD LUCK!!!

I’m applying!! early action…looking at the premed route(:

I’m applying, but my chances are EXTREMELY low, since I’m an international student and I’ll apply for aid. :/

kaira07,

Are you applying to some of the schools that are need-blind for internationals, such as Harvard, MIT, Princeton, and Yale?

Yes. HYP, Dartmouth, Amherst, maybe Williams and Middlebury. I’m still looking into the small liberal arts colleges. Also Cornell, because it’s recently come out with some special scholarships for students from my country. Georgetown, U Penn (Huntsman, though i know i won’t ever manage that if i apply for aid) and Stanford.

The last three will definitely be the toughest for me because of their policies.

Do you know about any top schools that do give a large number of internationals fin aid, even if they aren’t need blind?

kaira, I just found out that I’m on the same boat as you since I’m not a permanent resident yet. This sucks…

yeah, welcome to the club. Hopefully we’ll get into one of the 6 need blind schools for internationals, but since they’re also the most selective, i daresay it’ll be far from easy.

I’m at the point where Stanford is indeed my first choice and I’ve sort’ve let go of all my worries about it and just decided to do SCEA. I’ve got a pretty competitive record but I don’t know if it’s better off just applying Regular Decision…but as I said, I think I’m going to go for it.

If you have a competitive record and Stanford is your true first choice, go for it, openshutters! The key will be to convey through your essays how your record demonstrates excellent preparation for all Stanford has to offer, and how you expect to participate and make a difference in Stanford’s community. Investigate Stanford carefully through all the online data available, and make specific reference to how and why you envision yourself there. Good luck.

kaira,

yea it’s definitely not a good thing when your “safety schools” are yale, princeton, harvard, dartmouth, and mit. Lol.
