Stanford 2015 Hopefuls

^That thread is almost four years old, and references a statistic that is seven years old (before the current Dean of Admission was at Stanford), so it may be mainly of historical value by now…

^ I’d certainly like a legacy admit rate that is double the regular admit rate :)

No doubt you would. : ) I wouldn’t count on it these days, though.

I can’t decide whether or not I’ll apply SCEA or not… but Stanford is for sure my dream school… sigh
I’m also applying to a couple Ivies and… who knows what else.

I’m applying for stanford class of 2015 too! but I can’t decide SCEA or RD… I heard SCEA had better odds but I think my senior year grades will be a boost to my transcript… thoughts?

^ Stanford rejects a ton of students SCEA, including some very outstanding ones. If you think your senior year grades will help you, I suggest applying RD :)

Oh wow. I didn’t know that. I just know that 2 years ago a girl in my math class got in scea and never had to apply anywhere else. Soooooo lucky!! :)

^ damn… well, I know it’s not happening to me… lol

Yeah, I guess I’ll just be applying RD for Stanford but SCEA for yale. I have no reason for doing so though, haha, kind of just a random choice.

Hello everyone. I will be applying RD for stanford (ea goes to caltech)

out of curiousity, how’d u decide which school to apply EA to?

Hey! I will also be applying RD (my EA goes to MIT)

^I decided because MIT is my first choice and I’ve wanted to go there for a very long time. I love the atmosphere there and everything, and since most people get deferred from their EA pool, I figure there’s no risk.

I decided Caltech because it is my first choice (actually tied with HMC but I refuse to bind myself to a choice) and I simply would like to see if I know my decision there as soon as possible.

My EA will be used on either Yale or Stanford, havn’t decided yet.

^many people have the same exact situation, trying to decide between Stanford REA or Yale SCEA.
in my opinion, you should choose the school you would rather attend to apply early.
but according to simple facts, it is much safer to apply to Yale REA, since a large majority of applicants are deferred and very few are outright rejected. because of this, technically a larger percent of SCEA applicants will eventually be accepted than REA at Stanford.

^ I’m a legacy at Stanford and my objective stats are pretty good even for the REA pool. My preference for either school is negligible.

Yeah, they’re decent.

^ Understatement of the century ;)

lol “in my opinion you should choose the school you would rather attend to apply early”
what an astute observation, NJDS :stuck_out_tongue:
problem for indecisive people like me is that they dont know which school they “would rather attend” :)

^You might want to throttle back on the snark a bit, arwenevenstar. It’s clear from the context of the thread that what NJDS was recommending was to avoid over-“strategizing” the decision about where to play one’s REA card, which some applicants do instead of prioritizing their actual first choice. The fact that you don’t happen to have a first choice yet doesn’t diminish the value of NJDS’ suggestion.
