Stanford 3.88 GPA!

my friend got into stanford with a 3.88 last year and he just did 1 extracurricular activity, and took 2 AP exams, no work, and did ok on the SAT and ACT. what does everyone think?

Maybe he’s a really good writer.

What sport does he excel at?

Must be good essays, reccs or Legacy/URM
may be both?
Can you give more details?

Badminton, and swimming. but ts very shocking, 3.88 GPA I ve heard people with 4.0 not get into stanford

as long as the GPA is high i dont think it really matters. there is such a big difference between a 4.0 at one school and a 4.0 at another that i just think they want to see if u work hard. thats all that matters.

but why is there so many rejections at stanford? this school is very, very tough.

It isnt that uncommon for people with that gpa to get in.

Nothing personal, but there way so many posts that ask “why didn’t this person get in” and “why didn’t this person get in”. There are way more factors than GPA, score, and EC… like essay and recs and overall effect. So unless you’ve read the whole application, and even then, it’s hard to answer “why”.

I wouldn’t want a 3.88 for myself, but (at least by local standards) that isn’t particularly low… Do you have any more decisive/objective information?

So what exactly would a 3.88 translate to on a 100 point scale?
