Stanford Class of 2014 Admissions Mistakes

You know what I find funny is that for a lot of admits, there will be that feeling of a mistake having been made, but as soon as somebody else suggests that very thought, the defenses will start going up.

I’m black w/ 2150 and i got rejected XD

what the hell^

I am certainly flabbergasted by my offer of admission as well.

Yeah this feeling of an actual mistake gradually decreases and pretty much goes away when you get your letter. Now some students here still feel their admission was a mistake or fluke because they haven’t done well here.

Anyways I doubt more asians got in than normal. CC and friends are a fairly small sample size. I guess we’ll find out soon. If it is true that asians had it easier this year, maybe it’s because of that highly publicized story of the Chinese grad student who died? Maybe it’s because Stanford wants a more asian demographic, although it’s already pretty normal for a top school? Maybe some other reason? As you all can hopefully tell, these are pretty lame reasons. Although I wouldn’t put it past them.

Many colleges are only concerned about their “yeild” rather than getting the best, brightest, and honest. If they don’t believe they will be chosen, they will reject you. They have many ways to find that out: college board sat’s sent, surveys and a bunch of info shared with other admissions officers. On the other hand, kids apply to many colleges in hops os being admitted to the college of their choice (many fit their “choice”). RANKING AGENCIES SHOULD DISREGARD “YIELDS” SO THAT THEY CAN ADMIT WHO THEY THINK IS CAPABLE AND LET THE KID CHOOSE BASED ON THE BEST DEAL (YES NOWADAYS THIS IS THE SECOND REASON TO APPLY TO MANY COLLEGES)

^I don’t think Stanford is one of those colleges that cares so much about yield to waitlist/reject someone who would’ve gotten in otherwise.

Then again I may be a bit naive.

@Themust: You should be glad you got waitlisted because your SAT is probably high enough for international student! I got flat out rejected with 1890(applying for aid too) despite some definitely significant stuffs I showed to my regional admission counselor. My philosophy of college admission is collapsed after this year. I trust too much into the word “passion”, and I was really hopeful it, along with some significant achievements, help me get accepted. Reality, however, shows that I’m totally wrong:(. Anyway, good luck to you for getting off the waitlisted to be in Stanford next year!
@dannythek9: Big congratulations to you! You should be very proud of yourself, and I bet you must be very special! I’m Vietnamese too, got low SAT(probably lower than yours) but have some significant stuffs, got flat out rejected. You should post some of your stats here so that later Vietnamese generations can follow, as well as I can confirm if SAT, along with applying for aid, is the death-end to my application. Once again, congratulations! What is your major though?

No worries OP, the feeling goes away after you start receiving more stuff in the mail/email. That’s how I felt after the EA decisions.

I agree. Stanford is of a high enough caliber that it can assume, usually pretty correctly, that most applicants will choose it over state schools and even other schools of the same tier (Harvard, Yale, etc.) After all, sunny Palo Alto… Cali… great academics… ;)

EgyptianHopeful, yes you are. How can you possibly tell from these boards? For what it’s worth, I got in and go straight back to the Mayflower on my mom’s side.

I still can’t beleive I got excepted! I got a 20 on my ACT but was ranked 5 in my class… I was really lucky to get in lol

^^^^^^^^^^
…You’re ■■■■■■■■ right? Please tell me you’re ■■■■■■■■.

why would i be ■■■■■■■■?? i’m guessing my essays and rec letters pulled me through :)

^ Hey I got in with a 800 on my SAT and ranked last in my school. I didn’t even write the essays and forgot to submit my application. I guess my awesomeness pulled me through

congrats on your acceptance! i never took the SAT so idk if that score is legit or not, but i’m guessing that stanford is looking for awesome people, which every single one of us is.
