I am kinda nervous because I have a strong business background, but I said in my application that I am interested in Stanford’s CS + Humanities program. How heavily do they weigh what you said your listed intended majors are?
@marcus23 Stanford will admit you based on how well you fit into their university as a whole, not for one major. They are aware of the fact that many students at their school are especially curious and are therefore subject to change when it comes to majors or interests. Honestly though, at this point, no use in worrying about how that will affect your decision. You sound like a passionate and drive individual regardless so I’m sure you have a chance
@idealistener You write very positive.
I’m not even going to check my decision, haha
@idealistener One thing puzzled me about the " how well you fit into their university as a whole" aspect which they emphasized in the on-campus tour. There are no alum interviews - at least for CA applicants. I would think that if you were really trying to gauge fit that you would want that additional data point. Presenting oneself on paper versus in person can be a little different.
@marcus23 I think you’re fine as long as you have a solid narrative in your applications! It’s totally okay to have a strong business background AND interests in their Humanities program.
How much of an impact does grades and standardized test have on admission??
@Thekingnigel Very big. The big three factors are essays, ECs, and scores.
Hey guys… REA admit here! Please don’t base your chances off of other schools acceptances. I got into Stanford but was actually rejected from Duke, Columbia, Harvard, and waitlisted at UPenn. I’m so excited for everybody on this discussion. Any questions, don’t hesitate to ask!
@patertrium I agree. I know a few interviews were offered to a few people who applied early but I think due to the sheer number of applicants that Stanford receives I think being able to interview everyone would be somewhat unrealistic. I think that’s why many students/counselors/admissions coaches have advised applicants to demonstrate their fit into those supplemental essays. Being able to demonstrate intellectual vitality, an ability to interact meaningfully with other students (roommate essay), and being a passionate individual (what matters to you essay), are sure to secure a solid chance of being accepted. (This is somewhat directed towards you future applicants - when someone told me this I was able to tailor my application like so)
@intellectboy Thank you
This process has been beyond stressful for me and many others out there, so I intend to help in any way I can. And in all honesty, my contributions to this thread are probably the closest I’m ever gonna be to being a part of Stanford sad laughter so I’m getting my last few words in before I know for sure.
@IvyBound0211 Would it be possible if you could post your stats? I got waitlisted from UChicago, JHU, Columbia, Dartmouth, and Brown. Rejected from the other Ivies and Duke. I would truly love it if i got into Stanford after being rejected/waitlisted, especially since it will be hard for my family to afford college.
@idealistener “And in all honesty, my contributions to this thread are probably the closest I’m ever gonna be to being a part of Stanford”
JUST EXACTLY WHAT I’M THINKING OMG
Simply, good luck everyone! Everyone on this thread is really great and humble, and I am certainly positive that y’all will end up somewhere meaningful. I too can’t help but be anxious and bite on my fingernails, for in 6 hours I should be able to view my decision from stanford–I know my chances are low but i aint losing any hope!–and have a glimpse of what next four years of my life would be like. Hang in there everyone you lovely individuals
@writernwriters Glad to know I’m not alone
that being said, you seem like a very interesting and motivated individual - I’m sure that must have gotten through to them somehow! And if they choose not to accept us, the fact that we took the chance shows that we can still do so much more with our futures <3
@idealistener Thank you so much!! I love how nice everyone is here on Stanford CC threads. I’m sure that everything will work out for you as well, whether they have accepted you or not (which I’m certain they have, seeing how sweet you are; it’s seriously their loss not to admit such a kind, passionate person like you to their incoming freshman class), and I can definitely tell that you will make such great accomplishments in your future
x
I must admit… after being rejected from Harvard, Yale, Columbia and being waitlisted by Penn yesterday I’m pretty scared… I go to an small private school in CA and my parents have pushed me so hard to go to an ivy or equivalent, which I know is the wrong mentality to have. I am currently into WUSTL and JHU which are AMAZING options to have and I am so glad to have them, but it’s just so tough because of the parental pressure. I don’t want to get my Stanford decision back… after the ivies it can’t be good. I don’t even really want to go to Stanford, but my parents just look so disappointed in me which is really not helping my self-esteem right now… Well, we’ll know in 4 hours or so I guess…
@johonmilla His stats are in the REA results thread
I’ve heard 4pm PST
@patertrium I don’t know if it was due to the number of applicants, but I was able to get an interview. That was probably just luck though. It might depend on the available alumni in your area.
