Stanford Class of 2021 Applicant Discussion

Accepted. What is life.

Should I appeal for more aid?

@callmegray you probably won’t get more aid

If any future applicants are wondering if there are quotas for each high school- Stanford has only taken 1 kid max per year from my HS for the past 5 years, this year they took THREE. If Stanford wants you, they’ll take you.

Surprisingly accepted into Stanford! Very humbling! This was the least place I expected to get in considering their really tough and unpredictable process where many qualified applicants that are accepted at HYPMC are rejected. Good luck to all! Also accepted into Princeton & M&T@UPenn among others

@anonstem congrats! these are amazing results! you must be a rally amazing candidate. have you decided which one your are going to attend?

btw what is the C in your HYPMC acronym? Columbia?

@Penn95 Thanks! C is both Columbia & Chicago. No, I have almost 1 month to decide…it is going to be a tough decision.

@anonstem Oh I see. Yeah getting into the rest of HYPSM, let alone any other school, doesnt really mean much for admission to Stanford given how insanely competitive and desirable it has become.
Congrats again! tough choice ahead, but you can’t go wrong with any of the choices.

@anonstem yes i did an uncoordinated dual degree at Penn (SEAS + Wharton), but was not in the M&T program. sure i ll give you feedback.

@Penn95 Thanks!

How good is Stanford? DS was accepted to Pomona College, Columbia, Rice and USC for private universities from here in Southern California. Pomona wants $65k, Waiting on Columbia, Rice giving us 25k scholarship but wants $35k, USC 1/2 tuition for NMF. Just got the awards package from Stanford. $15k is all that all they are asking for the best world class education. For the first night in over a month I can finally sleep well. Overjoyed and so happy that great universities like Stanford gives us hard working people a leg up on the very rich and connected. IMO…Stanford is the best!

@Top10 Squad With all your consistent posts, I did not realize you were a junior until I went back to respond to someone who sent me a message. I know you mean well, but counting down with anxious Class of 2021 hopefuls and telling people that they will be successful wherever they go is a tad disingenuous. You’re a junior - you are not in our shoes and really have no idea how it feels. You are removed from it for another year, which is a good thing. Focus on school, have fun, figure out what you want to do - be a junior. Trying to figure out exactly how to get into Stanford and other elite schools by scouring CC and other sites should not be your primary objective. As many of us have learned, it’s not always easy to know what schools are looking for, but as someone who has gone through the process, I can say with some measure of understanding that we will all find our place. Until you’ve gone through the process, there is not way for you to relate. You may want to keep this in mind when considering your future posts.

@Redeemed1 I’m completely aware that I have no idea how you feel, but I still don’t see a problem with my putting in a word of encouragement. I know that I should not be worrying about “how to get in” or anything like that, and I limit my time on this forum to around 10 minutes a day (which I’m violating by typing this longer response), when I’m bored. I don’t intend to post a “chance me” thread or anything like that either, because I know it’s complete BS. Also, I’m applying in 6 months, so I am getting close to the deadline. I use this site not to “figure out exactly how to get into Stanford”, as you put it because I know that there is no perfect way. Adding a little positivity to a whirlwind of anxiety and stress doesn’t hurt anybody, and that’s what I do on here. Additionally, I don’t really get your comment about being “disingenuous”. Sure, I haven’t applied to Stanford yet, but I’ve applied to selective internships (3% acceptance rates), and other selective summer programs, so while the stakes aren’t as high, I understand the pressure to at least to a certain extent. Even if I didn’t, what’s wrong with having a little sympathy? I’ve seen many friends go through the process, get rejected, but end up at a school they now love. My words aren’t disingenuous, they’re sincere and from the heart. But I respect your opinion, and I’ll try to keep that in mind.

@Top10Squad As a parent of a class of 21 Stanford student. I don’t see anything wrong with what you are doing. Good luck during your college search and may a “junior” give you encouragement when it’s your turn to step up to the plate.

@Top10Squad good for you for being so kind and supportive. The world needs more people like you who are supportive for no other reason than to show kindness. Standfod students are often described as kind and you fit that bill. I truly dont know why anyone would have an issue with that. For @ Redeemed1 to be so upity about it and say the things she did baffels me. i guess she may have an inability to empathize with others unless she has been through the exact same thing and even then humans experience the same thing differently so if you use her logic no one knows what someone is going through. I say keep on doing what you are doing!

p.s. i wonder if Stanford saw @Redeemed1’s true colors they would have offerered her an acceptance? Not showing much grace for someone with that screen name.

Was wondering… did anyone who was accepted get their admitted student folder in the mail yet?

We got ours about 2 weeks ago

@GeoffWii2 and @letsshare Thank you both for the encouraging words. I’ve been criticized for a lot of things, but I never thought supportiveness would be one of them (lol). Guess there’s a first for everything

@GeoffWii2 hi did yours come with a handwritten note from the adcom officers?

^^^^yes it did, but we got that folder in December or January. We got the Admit weekend folder 2 weeks ago
