Stanford Class of 2021 Applicant Discussion

Hey CC. Just came back from the Stanford admit evening at the LA central library. Great evening with great speakers from of course Stanford. Are the administrators and alumni that enthusiastic about the school? Very impressed and D is now wavering and leaning toward attending. Making her decision between Columbia and Stanford on the very last day. Hope she goes CARDINAL.

@Top10Squad, if I misinterpreted your intentions, then my apologies. It just struck me as odd that a junior is reading and posting daily on multiple threads, reminding people to post their stats and was aware of the exact date and time of admission decisions an entire year before going to college and participating in the countdown, which appears as someone who is extremely competitive and looking for a leg up. But if your intentions are truly not self-serving and are really meant to be kind and supportive, than I stand corrected, and please accept my apology. @letsshare, Stanford and Princeton and the other colleges that admitted me did see my true colors, reviewing a thoughtful and holistic application, versus making a judgment call on one CC post. My comments weren’t meant to be “upity” and my apologies if you interpreted them that way. You can’t always gauge who a person is by such limited information. For example, you wrongly assumed that I am a girl. Either way, we are past the application and admissions process and are moving on to the real thing, which is pretty exciting. Best of luck @Top10Squad on your 2022 college pursuit, and good luck to the entire class of 2021!.

@gr8pl8 ; hi, my D is admitted to Stanford but we did 't attend the admit evening in LA because we just came back home yesterday from Europe. How was it? How many students were admitted in LA area?

@dongrae - It was a very enlightening event. The AO’s that were there were so genuinely happy to see the students they accepted and fought for. The Stanford staff actually remember the specifics of what most of the applicants wrote on their essays. The regional AO for SoCal made a very good impression upon our family and the way she presented Stanford. They were delighted to match a face to the name and very informative with any questions we had. It was a first class event all the way around in terms of atmosphere and the presentation. The speakers present on the stage panel and the Dean of Admissions were entertaining and informative on why Stanford was the best university to attend.

About 100 students were there with about 150 parents. Lot’s of people in limited a space but made for an intimate event. From check in to when exiting the event, it was well coordinated and professional.

How many students accepted from LA was not discussed but only 30 students attended in Orange County event the Saturday before. What I can say is that the highly regarded HS in LA had many students accepted. Speaking for PVPHS we had five offers of acceptance. Hope your D will be attending the admit weekend at the end of the month.

At the OC Stanford admitted students reception, I was most impressed with the host’s son who was a 5th grader and wanted to attend Stanford in future. With all due respect to Stanford, Stanford would be lucky to have him as a future student. lol

@gr8pl8 :Thank you for your kind explanation. Yes, my D will be attending the admit weekend. Stanford is always my d’s first choice. Hope your D goes to CARDINAL !!^^

Hi
did anyone receive a personalized letter for regularly admitted students?
I got my package today but it only includes the printed version of the online letter.

@mer377 - It should come from your regional AO in a few days.

@gr8pl8 I’m an international student, I don’t know if they do this for us or not.

@mer377 - They did it through the mail so it may take a lot longer for you but I believe it is tradition.
