nope

I really hope I get in and everyone else here as well…

Yes, my son received one and will be meeting with an alumni next week.

Yes, my son got one from an alum, they are meeting next week. I put very little weight on the interview having any impact on admission though. I’m happy he gets the experience and that’s all I’m taking it as.

As a student I am pretty much thinking the same, it’s a great experience even though I don’t get in lol

Interviews are solely based on whether they take place in your geography, and whether there are sufficient alumni volunteers. They have very limited impact for hooked applicants (Donors, Athletes, etc), but can have an impact for ā€œnormal applicantsā€, particularly if the interviewer is experienced and his/her grading is consistent with historical decisions by AOs

Wow this is great to hear and the first that I’ve heard it has some impact. His interview went great and he enjoyed the conversation ,maybe it was good he didn’t realize it had any impact! That might have made him more stressed.

Did anyone receive a likely letter? A large mailer with school details.

Nope, sounds like a good sign! In the past Stanford likelies were emails. Did you get a mailer welcoming them?

It was more like Thank you Alum for supporting etc. and then about evolving admissions landscape. Could be a polite reject too.

Are you an alum? I’ve seen those type of worded letters sent to alums with kids applying in that year to let them know it’s another ā€œunprecedentedā€ year for applicants etc. It may just be informational.

Does anyone know what is the approximate percentage of kids who got interviews and were admitted in the past couple of years? How many spots do you think are still available to fill ( after early action ) ?

according to the website, all interviews will be scheduled by mid Feb. So, chances to get an interview is low. This makes me feel I am in the ā€˜auto reject’ group.

Aren’t likely letters like early acceptance letters?

The Stanford OVAL interview process is organized by geographical areas and alumni availability. Some countries/areas do not have interviews at all.
Some countries/areas have interviews, but insufficient alumni/bandwidth to interview every applicant. As such, not receiving an interview doesn’t negatively impact a candidate. Whilst the interview is optional, my guess is that turning down an offer of interview without an explicit reason will be viewed as a negative from an AO’s standpoint, because it is like withholding the possibility for them to have more information to draw their decision from.

Best of luck
