Stanford Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

Unfortunately, when sport recruiting is in the mix, it’s a different pool anyway (I don’t think legacy matters as much here). My son likes to “complain” about other students getting in elite schools through sports. I told him he could have tried to play sports but he had to be great at it. Otherwise, it’s a moot point.

I thought so first. But her capability isn’t reach as much as recruiting to sport. I cannot describe it details if someone could aware of it. I searched her ranking either because i was frustrated. I am fine now. Anyway i live in Southern California and it is too far from us . We will apply claremont schools . My daughter is in there also and i think my child will get in USC i guess . Some thing i got notice. Please understand me since i am really frustrated till 5 min ago

Same here! Shocked is a good description. We don’t even know what to say.

My kid got a 35 in ACT, and have 19 AP classes. 4s and 5s and Valedictorian and Class
President, and other different leadership. GPA 4.5 and lots of volunteer, extracurricular…Reject!!!

I forgot to mention that my kid also has The President’s Volunteer Service Award!!

Rejected! Really surprised

So, i don’t respect HYPS really. UC berkeley students said that they are smater than stanford. I didn’t believe before but i believe this now. It is really unfair but i believe graduated HYPS doesn’t mean life is successful. My other daughter graduated berkeley ( majors : apply mathematics) and works in mckinsey company. I didn’t want Stanford but my child doesn’t want to go claremont schools and he wants school to have football . So we applied USC and Stanford. We anyway would choose usc over stanford but i am just frustrated already. She got in on monday morning this week first hand.

Also, i followed reddit there are some students who were deferred came from underprivileged area. Stanford is hypocrite.

Hey - same here with my kid - 36 ACT (not superscore), 4.6 weighted GPA (4.0 unweighted). Many AP, DC and honors, lots of ec and with leadership, regional STEM challenge awards…. Rejected

We are not shocked as I know the competition this year is even more so than prior as apps and EA apps are up across the board …. But we thought we had a decent chance

Now on to the other schools

D24 rejected.
34 ACT. Perfect GPA. National Merit. Four varsity sports (captain of two). Started a non profit. Over 1000 hours or community service. Class President.
I’m sure they just had so many applications…but I really thought she had a chance!

She did, and that makes it hard. And having been rejected, she can focus on ending up somewhere great where she’ll thrive. Hang in there. A friend’s D went through the same, was devasted, and ended up at another HYPS.

The process is brutal because if you don’t try, you can’t win. But if you try, you may have to suffer losing. One of my favorite essays ever below.

the person we know that got in from our high school and they had 3 acceptances. i published a book on religions and prologue was written by head of school and another student was double legacy. Also high school is a well regarded boarding school which i do think can make a difference in the long run but not sure
good luck on other apps

Nowadays, publishing book and research papers are basic. Honestly , who knows that who wrote books , research papers and essay . Look at you tube there are so many essay editors and many institutions support students to participate competitions for economic, finance and science. I don’t believe all things. America admission system should change to be fair to everyone. Legacy is most unfair system than anything, even affirmative action. I am mad at this not that my child didn’t get in Stanford. That is really offensive. All students in our school recognized that her mom is legacy. Now any students don’t respect her .

Did you hear from USC already?

Anyone else get deferred? Our child did. At our child’s specific request we aren’t revealing any statistics but they’re at the top of what I see in this thread. Wonder what the odds of admission are for someone in Early Restricted Action who is deferred?

Oh
I was confused for your question. No we didn’t hear anything from USC. We would choose USC( if got admitted) over stanford. Since we live in orange county. Stanford is far and our acquaintances who got in Stanford with sports , tennis, synchronized or soccer etc but they most live in middle class , not different people graduating from state colleges. So we already decided to go near school. But rejection was feeling bad.

The odds are good. I think about 50%. Unlike Harvard which defers 78%, Stanford defers very few.

RealLy? I saw maybe 15%

Historically, the deferred candidates for Stanford have a real chance of getting in–a much better chance than those deferred by other colleges in the same league. It is very reasonable to take a “wait and be hopeful” attitude–although, obviously, there is no guarantee. (My guess is it depends on who are applying RD.) Take care and I wish you good news in 2024.

Why did your child not get into Stanford? Do you think it was because another student from the same school did get in because of sports/legacy. At our mediocre Orange County high school we had one athlete and at least two non-athlete/non-legacy students get in REA last week.
