Stanford early: should I take SAT I this saturday if my ACT is 34?

I am a high school senior applying early action to Stanford.

I signed up to take the SAT October 6th and November 3rd.

I just received my ACT composite: 34
English: 34
Math: 35
Reading: 31
Science: 34
(Writing score has not come out yet)

I realize that the ACT 34 is around a 2260-2280 on the SAT. How many questions can I miss on Saturday to get higher than a 2300?

I have never taken the SAT I before and currently my SAT record (comprised of 3 SAT II’s) is pretty good. I don’t want to take the SAT I this Saturday, get lower than a 2300, and tarnish my SAT record.

Should I take the SAT this saturday?

Is an ACT 34 okay for HYPS universities along with good but not stellar GPA (UW-3.91, W-4.28), solid extracurriculars and solid recommendations?

thanks in advance!

I guess I’m in a similar situation so I’ll ask my question here.

I’m just wondering if they look at both, or if they look at just the better of the two. i.e. I scored a 32 on ACT and 2030 on SAT, so would they look at both the SAT and ACT, or would they just look at the ACT because I scored higher?

perplexd - The admissions site says you can take either the SAT or the ACT, and with a 34, I don’t think you’ll need to do an SAT to stand out.

thewu, did you take any sat II’s? If you send those satII’s, admissions will see your SAT I 2030. So definitely send in that ACT 32.

good luck!

Don’t bother with the SAT if you have a 34 on the ACT. Believe me, Stanford won’t care. Plus, you can only miss a few (say 3) on each section if you want to get a 2300+.

haha thanks for the responses. good luck to you too! :D

I’m just wondering if I should even retake the SAT, since I did better with the ACT…

No point in taking SATs if you have a 34 on ACT. I got 4 wrong on CR section of SAT and was already at 730, 5 wrong on Writing(720) and 0 wrong on Math, so you must get like 2 wrong max on each section if you want to get an SAT score that would be considered better than your ACT score.

go take it cuz SAT is sooooo fun
