Do artsy/intellectual/hipster-y types have a presence on campus? I’d say I fall into this category. I can easily picture Silicon Valley aspiring entrepreneurs thriving, for example, but would someone like me find their niche at Stanford too?

yep definitely. As in any society, if there is one dominant tyranny of thought, there will be a counterculture thriving in the shadows. Though not such an extreme dichotomy at Stanford, I think a lot of your artsy types take a sense of pride in not being driven by technology or money. You will most definitely find a niche.

thanks Senior, that’s really good to know! anyone else??

If you’re like that, I’d say apply to Reed College.

i’ve actually gotten into stanford, and love it…i’d just like to make sure i’ll find some like-minded creative people there before i make that final decision

^If you ever visit, traditional dorms might be too conservative for your liking. Not conservative politically, but conservative in lifestyle and academic choices. I’d recommend taking treks out to EBF, Synergy, Columbae, Chi Theta Chi, and other houses known to be a bit more off-the-wall. That way you’ll see the full Stanford.
