Is Siemens National Finalist considered a hook for Stanford?

I wouldn’t consider it a ‘hook’, but it’s definitely a nice award/honor to have, and it will add to your application.

Idk about Siemens but running a 14:30 5k is a hook to me.

Siemens is not a hook; however, it is definitely a noteworthy achievement.

This. It’s a well-known fact that athletic recruits with solid academic stats get a significant boost in admissions.

I’d also say that great athletic recruits with questionable academic stats also get a significant boost in admissions.

wooo Harambee! I’m supposing we’re in the same boat then? Picking up my sport was probably the best life decision ever.

check out this hook: If admitted, I will be the sixth family member to attend and the third generation to attend Stanford

Look, you’re a knave, okay? …

muahahhahhaa

Even a 15:05 5k can get you recruited by Stanford. Or a 4:07 mile (as a junior, of course) lol. Stanford is insane for XC

I wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for Stanford (my grandparents met there)! and my grandpa married one of their classmates after they got divorced. I guess that’s the closest thing to a CC-approved hook I have?

You expect that type of recruiting from an athletics powerhouse like Stanford.

Look at Luck’s high school grades. Have given on TV. A+ student and I believe he is a physics major

^Do you think all of Stanford’s athletes are A+ students? I’d say some are, perhaps even most are, but there are definitely some athletes who get in without having stellar grades.

Oh yeah, there ARE those that get recruited with lower grades. This water polo player from my school with mediocre grades got recruited by Stanford and USC, but chose USC. …Dip

I “know” two people that were recruited by Stanford for Track/XC. One had a 4.0, while the other has a 3.7 with some AP classes. You don’t have to do insanely well academically, but I think it helps. The first is going there and the other one is either going to Tennessee or Columbia.

So, I was wondering…

I’m 15, but I’m graduating next year. Is that a hook? and if it is, how much of hook is it?

^As far as I know, I don’t think that’s a hook. You would have to explain to adcoms specifically why you’re planning on graduating early.

Yeah, isn’t that usually a disadvantage? Are you graduating early because you skipped grades early, or in high school?

I started school one year earlier, and I’m doing grade 11 and 12 in one year

Yeah, I had to explain why in the Education section of the common app.

Disadvantage?? Why would it be??
