[/ul]Other Factors:
**General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:**i really dont kno how they couldve rejected me especially after working this hard for so long. im still struggling to find what i did wrong. i didnt even get deferred. it really sucks to see so many other acceptances, many of which dont have anything outstanding. in any case congrats to all the accepts and good luck to all the deferees…i guess u were just that much better than me.

Hey guitarher0, I got deferred from MIT with Siemens Regional Finalist and USAMO + 3.95 and 2350. Yea, I don’t know what these schools want…

Oh, I’m also azn male =/.

@stupidkid: don’t worry…MIT deferees have a much higher chance of getting accepted. They like to defer people so that they could see everyone at once.

i just want to say congrats to everyone accepted, and not to give up just because your not. I myself was in tears today after receiving the rejection email. I guess i had my hopes too high and were ripped away from me. i feel so dissapointed in myself. i had high test scores, state awards, 3rd in a class of 300, student ambassador, nhs treasurer, 11 AP + AP Scholar, fluent in French, captain of Academic Bowl team who won sectionals, many music awards, participants in 2 orchestras that are top ranked in the state, participated in music master classes with YoYo Ma, swim team, tutor and founder of a science/art club in my neighboorhood, photographer, State Scholar, Morning Classes at the FermiLab-a high energy physics laboratory winning the Fermi Award just to name a few things. My essays we i felt strong and so were the recs. Not that this is a reason, but i am african american and first generation American. So to all who were dissapointed out there, there is a reason, it might not be obvious now, but youll find your place somewhere out there. Again Congrats to all.

Some people here are amazing… I’ll certainly enjoy my next year with all of you… (I posted my stats… around page 5~6) And to “disappointed,” it shows that your stats are certainly impressive (and with some help of AA) but I think Stanford felt that your activities weren’t focused. General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Congrats to all that made it! I guess Stanford wasn’t meant to be for me.

to “8parks11” thanks for the consolation, but its not that my activities were not focused, its just that both of my parents ore from different countries so for that reason, i have been fluent in French at the same time as English. As for music, i have been playing since the age 3. And as far as my academics, its not my fault if i was selected to participate in math, physics and chemistry state competitions. So its not that i wasnt “focused” or passionate about a certain “field” its just that i have a genuine interest in both academics and music, and its been that way since i could remember. im not just scattering myself in tons of activies just to get accepted, but those are my interests and im not going to downsize that just to seemed more"focused". I know you are just trying to help, and i might seem a little mean, but i guess i am just trully disappointed. Congrats to you and to all others.

[] Gender: Male
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Legacy at U of Illinois at U-C =)
[] Strengths: Stats, essays

[li] Why you think you were denied: I’m from NJ, a competitive state, from a not-great school. I’m Taiwanese, and I don’t have any major national awards. My school doesn’t alert kids to opportunities. It’s the only school I know of that doesn’t. [/li][/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I wasn’t too dejected about my rejection. I actually went through old decisions and deciphered trends in people’s acceptances/deferrals/rejections, and I figured out that I fit into the Defer/Reject pile. So now I can probably tell by looking at a kid’s app if he’s getting into a school or not pretty accurately. I predicted each of my friends decisions correctly haha. And mine…

Congrats to everyone who got in!! Hope to see you next year! To all those who didn’t, just remember plenty of people are far more successful than Stanford graduates without even going to college: it’s not the end of the world.

I haven’t read all the posts, but just reading the last 2 pages, I hope that all the strong science/math students are preparing their RD apps to all those other great science/math/eng schools out there. I find all too often, students only set their hearts on Stanford and MIT, rather than also CalTech, Columbia, Princeton, Brown, Dartmouth, Cornell, etc, which also have really strong science/eng programs…
