BTW, MERRY XMAS, and hope you get to enjoy ur holiday.

i got in, i had a very strong application. Never can be sure, but i like how Stanford appears to be making their decisions (i know someone with amazing scores and a genius who was rejected because he was antisocial). I think that Stanford is really trying their best to pick those who will use their education to better the community around them and the world rather than using the world and Stanford’s resources to better themselves. That is why I love Stanford, and why I’m accepting their offer to be in the class of '12.

Premierbush, I know a lot of great people who didn’t get accepted, it’s not fair to say we’re all antisocial.

I don’t know forsure, baseballpat, but hey! I’ll give it my all and just maybe, this second time, I’ll do what I set out to do. :]

“Then, if you still feel Stanford is the best school for you and your current school does not give you what you need, try transferring”

Stanford had a 1.5% transfer acceptance rate last year…

not necessarily antisocial, i just was pointing out an example that I recently encountered from my school.

Decision: Rejected

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: being Asian, low scores, couple of B’s (i was hoping my #1 status would cover that)[/li][/ul]Other Factors: I had the highest leadership position in most of my activities
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Stanford was my #1 choice. I did go to a camp there. I want to know how i got separated from the rest of you happy people. Congratulations, and know that I’m jealous. Lol. I least I got voted the MVP of the Stanford thread

…And if you do not try to apply it becomes 0.0%
Life goes on either way
Also, there is grad school if you want that experience with Stanford

hey alohasam89, you and I man. we both gotta find other schools to love…I know how you feel. :(

Premierbush, I don’t mean like that, just try to understand our feelings too. I know there’s limited room, and there will always be someone on the short end of the stick in the college admissions process, but if you can honestly tell some of these guys they aren’t qualified I think you’re wrong.

Like Sam, I thought he was a pretty fun guy (as far as I can tell on the Internet haha :]), and he wasn’t admitted.

I can name more than a few others, too.

We’re taking it a bit rough. :[

I was accepted guys. Not going to post my stats or anything else anymore, but for anyone that remembers my stats and my earlier posts, know that circumstances, outlying factors, and personal (human) qualities are important.

Congrats everyone. This weekend has been so great.

what was your point rence?

I second Shinjin - alohasam was good to have in this forum. I even named alohasam the MVP of this forum; sad stanford didn’t see it in aloha’s app.
Move on alohasam - you have a bright future!

In reply to rence,
I completely understand the whole hook thing. In fact, having a strong hook (as it appears you did) can outweigh a ton of other characteristics usually necessary to get in to the top schools. It seems like Stanford looks for the hook more than other top universities. I think there is some truth to making “their liberal hearts bleed” as some person posted previously.

[] Essays (subject and responses): They were definitely unique, but maybe that’s not what Stanford was looking for. Common app short one was sort of a narrative description of one of my piano lessons, main essay was on becoming ambidextrous, which ended up becoming a sort of metaphor for how I pursue new and strange experiences. Intellectual vitality was on the origins of life, which I really loved at first but started wondering about after I submitted my app. Roommate essay was on my being the only child and how that influences my interaction with other people, Why Stanford? was probably pretty typical. Yeah…I’m starting to regret how much time I put into these essays.
[] Teacher Recs: didn’t read
[] Counselor Rec: didn’t read
[li] Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): Definitely not a hook, but I did the Summer Science Program in '07, considered a step down from RSI and TASP.
[/li]

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none
[] Strengths: numbers
[] Weaknesses: ECs are mediocre for Stanford, I expressed my interest in science on my application but because I realized my interest pretty late I don’t have a lot of ECs/research to back it up.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: Besideswhat I mentioned under weaknesses, there’s a possibility that Stanford hates my school b/c of an issue w/ some girl who applied there two years ago. Last year no one from my school got in, despite some very strong candidates, and it doesn’t look like this year is going too well either. I’m also starting to wonder about one of my teachers recommendations, but there’s not much I can do about it now.[/li][/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
It’s easy to say this now that I’m rejected, but I don’t think there’s much of an advantage to applying early to Stanford if you’re unhooked. They take the people who they’re sure would get in anyway, and reject a lot to save themselves time later. Overall I see a lot of “qualified” people getting rejected, and a lot of “unique” people getting in. I’m definitely not suggesting that the people who got in didn’t deserve it, because every top school really needs interesting people to add to the learning experience of everyone else there. I’m just questioning Stanford’s method of rejecting so many people early. Luckily Stanford wasn’t one of my top choices. Anyway, congratulations to everyone–including those who did not get in. There’s no reason to downplay your accomplishments after getting rejected; you’re still the same talented, amazing people, and I wish you luck with all your other schools.

Wow sorry, that was longg…

premierbush,
I bet all accepted students “like how Stanford appears to be making their decisions”.
You are making a lot of baseless assumptions in your posts about what people that were not accepted did and didn’t do…

yea i am, im no admissions officer so dont take my posts as the voice of the stanford admissions comittee. Im just trying to make sense of how the decisions were made through my personal experiences and the posts, and it seems like those accepted were really unique and special. next year i want to be in a class with such a unique student body, and thats y i applied to stanford.

Clearly Stanford didn’t keep all the arrogant people out…
Premierbush has a good point, although it’s pretty insensitive to be posting it here. Go find a brag thread please.

ihates@t, um, when are you going to admit that AA is getting a little out of hand? either asians are not posting as many acceptance threads as others because they feel its pointless or because they didn’t get in. as far as adversities are concerned, there were many unfair notions such as slavery ans whatnot (not that AA is anything as serious as slavery) which were simply considered “adversities”, so where are you getting this from?

premierbush, get a life, if you got accepted, go out and enjoy the rest of your pointless senior year instead of rubbing salt in our wounds…by the way, ihates@t, if you think they were right to keep me out, they might have not been thinking straight when this guy was accepted. s/he’s already shown how good a character s/he has, this is exactly the type of person i’m sure Stanford is looking for

@Premierbush: I totally understand your point in that Stanford accepts the people they think would be a good match there. However, that is not to say that those who were not accepted are not “really unique and special” I believe that all the applicants were special in their own way and it would be wrong to say that only those who were accepted are “unique”. Who knows? Maybe someone who wasn’t accepted will end up winning the nobel prize someday. Does that make them “not special”?
