A friend of mine got a phone call from Stanford accepting her into some sort of “honors program”, even though she didn’t apply to the university. Does anyone know if this is true, if the honors program is an acceptance to the university, or what’s going on with that call? Did others receive phone calls so early on?

Well I can tell you with 100% certainty that Stanford does not have an honors program. It was brought up during convocation that contrary to the word of HS musical, Stanford does not have an honors program. I don’t know what is going on with the call, but it defiantly is not from Stanford.

Nobody who does not apply can get accepted.

there are honors for individual departments but no way would any freshman go in already accepted to a departmental honors program (you have to apply and take certain college courses).

tell her to call the number back.

Sounds similar to my situation. I took a summer program from Art Academy University and since then, they’ve been calling and calling informing me about upcoming open houses, application dates and such. Today, I got another call (probably the 10th one). I politely told them that I had already completed my college applications and that I decided not to go to art school. A few minutes later, I got an email from them saying that I got accepted and telling me to apply for fin aid…

Yeah, but the “Academy of Art University” has a 100% acceptance rate. Their philosophy is to let everyone in. There’s no way you could have been rejected… even if you didn’t apply, haha :D

We’re talking about Stanford here.

Maybe she misheard Stratford.

Nah i didn’t mishear… just sayin that i had a similar sort of situation where i got “accepted” into a school i didn’t even apply to hahaa

or Samford

Yeah, it seems really strange for this to happen, and I immediately became skeptical. I know people can get accepted to community college or UCs without applying because they all share their information, but there seemed to be no way that she could have gotten accepted without even applying because they would have nothing to base their decision on.

Wowww, I think she is just punking you.

Or Sanford, the esteemed pencil company?

Or Sanford, the esteemed pencil company?

Falling down laughing, here.

I am not sure what the call was about, OP tell your friend that there is no way that Stanford would ever admit a kid who has not applied. They have big enough problem selecting kids from the very strong pool that has applied, they are not going to bother with kids whose profile they have not even seen. Either it is a scam, your friend misheard the name or it is some consultant trying to get your friend to fork $$$$ with a promise he/she may get into Stanford.
