Cofounder and Co president of group called Art for a Heart that hand makes different fashion elements and sells them to raise money for the International Children’s Heart foundation. This started in the middle of the 2008 year, and we have already raised enough money for a heart surgery for one child, named Ruben. Ruben, who lives in Nicaragua, was sucessfully saved and is now recuperating. The cost of the surgery was $1,500. We often put together events to raise awareness of Congenital Heart Defects. The founder of the ICHF flew in from Tennessee to meet us and thank us for our efforts. We are featured on their website at [babyheart.org - International Children’s Heart Foundation - Where Hope Comes To Life - Home](http://www.babyheart.org) .

Fashion: Enjoys designing and sewing bags and dresses as part of the Art for a Heart club as well as separately.

Red Cross Volunteer: about 500 hours total. I have been a volunteer at the Red Cross since the fifth grade.

Work: Anatomy and Biology tutor at College. Paid. Teach / Tutor college kids and help them achieve the grade that they want in Anatomy and Biology.

Tae Kwon Do: winner of numerous international and national medals and trophies. Black Belt 1st degree, going on 2nd before the end of 2009. Assistant teacher, as well as referree in tournaments.

Violin: Section Leader/Principal of High School’s symphony and chamber orchestra for two years. This orchestra is ranked #1 high school orchestra in the entire nation, and traveled to Europe on tour last spring. We have been adjudicated superior by every judge in history. In addition, I teach violin privately to some students, and also am a member of All-State Southern California Orchestra, deemed the best orchestra in all of California. Only about 10 people from our orchestra are admitted every year. I have been part of this for two years in a row now.

Circle of Friends: Spends time with mentally challanged children and helps them with social skills and school. Although we have different intellectual levels and thoughts, we still manage to have great fun together.

I am planning on applying to

UCLA,
Stanford,
Harvard,
Yale,
Columbia,
Cornell,
MIT,
UC Berkeley

should i include UC IRVINE/DAVIS/SD?
should i take out some of the higher ones such as harvard/yale/columbia?

I really don’t know because i only know of one person that graduated early…
he had a 2010 SAT, 1 ap sophomore year, and 3.3 GPA. no… big extracurriculars.
He is now going to UC Berkeley

my problem is that I have no academic awards as my school does not offer them. How can i get some before applications are due?

Thanks so much!

Focus on your fashion activity (possible thing that makes you stand out… semi-hook), best chance you’ve got IMO to conquer college admissions. If you have more time, do 1-2 more fashion activities that you ENJOY and write about it.

UCLA, - in
Stanford, - crapshoot this year, especially at stanford, more so than ivies so ~~
Harvard, - out due to lack of academic awards
Yale, - better chance than avg. applicant/
Columbia, - good chance
Cornell, - good chance
MIT, - out, same reason as Harvard
UC Berkeley - in

wow dude so you’re going to apply to colleges this year? That’s one extra person competing with rising seniors, lol.

I think you might have some good chances at schools like UCLA, Berkeley, Stanford (harder), and Harvard/Yale those ivies I can’t ever tell…

holy crap at the number of courses you took each year.

Uh yeah your list looks fine except that its lacking a safety, so check off some of the other UCs, its only an application fee and takes no extra application effort and will bring some security. That said you have an excellent shot of getting into at least one of HYSM with that ridiculously intense course load throughout high school.

Seriously I don’t get why you have so many courses, it’s not even necessary to do something like that (such as taking 2 languages, etc), what are your true passions for any academic areas?

The courses were just to find what i really enjoyed and wanted to pursue.
I also had to take more in 3 years to fully do a rigorous high school curricula.
Im sure if i had done it in 4 years it wouldn’t be that big of a deal because it would be more spread out…
Despite what a lot of people think, I did not spend that much time studying/etc.
i really feel like, even though i spent 3 years in high school, i did everything i should have in 4 years.

(ie partying, friends, etc)

Thanks to you guys that replied.

To invoyable:

Passions? I am going to go to medical school- this I am sure of.
I love science.
As nerdy as it sounds, I really do.
I took three science classes each year to really try and show my abilities in science.
I took Anatomy1, and Anatomy 2 which includes the personalized instruction of the dissection of two human cadavers.
I even met and talked with Gunther Van Hagens, the creator of Body Worlds- I introduced him to the audience at the lecture he was giving.

Really, none of this is solely to get into college.
I feel like everything I do is interconnected- volunteer work at Red Cross,
Volunteer work to save children with congenital heart disease-
its all for people less fortunate than I. Things that I could do with a medical doctorate degree. A group of people I could potentially save in the future.
I was offered a job- to even tutor anatomy and get paid for it.

I feel like all of this shows that i do have a passion in certain academic areas- not just to get credit and move on with life.

On another note,
If you’re not on the decathalon team science team, math team ect, how do you even get awards?
AP Scholar? i for sure will get that.
I don’t qualify for merit scholar because i am not a junior…
and I am … on the National High school honor society but i dont even think that merits anything.
And Delians honor society -_-

thanks to all of you! really helps a lot

Definitely add some safeties to your list i.e. UCSD, UCI or UCD

I am adding ucsd, uci to my list. :] thanks

how do you manage to not get 800s on bio and chem when you got As in the ap classes??

^Maybe he/she took it after he took honors chem and bio instead of after ap chem and bio, or maybe he/she just didn’t prepare for ti specifically so he was unfamiliar with the way the questions were set up.

UCLA, - probably IN
Stanford, - match
Harvard, - very big reach
Yale, - high reach
Columbia, - reach, but a good reach
Cornell, - again another good reach
MIT, - very big reach
UC Berkeley - match
UCSD- IN
UCI- IN

Dude, your a sophmore. You gotta be REALLY impressive, even more than any of the seniors graduating, because your a year younger…and honestly, I see a lot of really good social related stuff, but not many academic related stuff (your SAT’s okay, a bit low, and your grades are fine…but so are every one elses) So in my opinion:
UCLA, - match
Stanford, - high reach
Harvard, - very high reach
Yale, - very high reach
Columbia, - reach
Cornell, - reach
MIT, - very high reach
UC Berkeley - high reach
UCSD- match
UCI- match

i dunno, if you wait one more year, your chances will dramatically improve imo
anyways
UCLA, - match
Stanford, - crapshoot
Harvard, - crapshoot
Yale, - crapshoot
Columbia, - crapshoot
Cornell, - match/reach
MIT, - crapshoot
UC Berkeley - reach
UCSD- match
UCI- match

I am so jealous of you right now (and I have a right to be) lol. My high school doesn’t accept high school credit for college.
Fellow sophomore early graduate of '09 here! Whoo! Also for personal reasons.
I’m betting you’re an Asian female from California.
We have about the same rank, same unweighed GPA (how does your school weigh GPA), and the same SAT scores (down to the SAT II’s), but you totally kill my chances of getting in with your crazy course load (may I ask WHY) and EC’s. You have a very good shot at the top ivies. Thank god I’m never becoming doctor (I hate blood and people outside of family and friends).

This is what I think, but I may very well be wrong (please don’t go to Cornell for my sake) :):
UCLA, - IN
Stanford, - decent shot
Harvard, - you have a much better shot than I do. reach.
Yale, - I hate Yale (I’m a Connectican Asian). reach.
Columbia, - probably
Cornell, - IN/match
MIT, - reach
UC Berkeley - IN
UCSD- IN
UCI- IN
Good luck next year!

To bay-area:

I dont understand how getting a 780 and 750 shows that i was unfamiliar with the subject at all. In fact, many people that got an a on my ap chemistry class got around 640. and my ap bio class got around 740.

I’m not saying this to be rude… I honestly don’t understand…

In addition,
I found out that my chances DO NOT dramatically improve after one year.
colleges actually like to see early graduates.
i talked to a stanford admissions officer, and she said that no matter what the reason, graduating a year early is looked upon very highly, especially if there are extracurriculars/ extra classes in the way.

She also said that i would get into about the same level of school if not worse schools without this whole “graduating early” scheme unless I did some crazy research to "save the world. "

the thing is you should have an extra year to pwn with ECs…currently you have very few academic awards… but it’s up to you.
