Stanford profile sentences: Complete sentences or no?

Everyone keeps telling me to use incomplete sentences (list-format) for the favorite books, movies, etc. portion of the profile questions…but I’m not sure.

This is what I originally had: As far as reading goes, I’ll take a whack at anything that isn’t riddled with clichés. My favorite authors include Kurt Vonnegut and Sherman Alexie, because I am enormously inspired by what they have to say and how they say it. My musical interests range from Willie Nelson to Aerosmith, but I’ll listen to anything that doesn’t use the word ‘shawty’ or some variation of it.

This is what I have now: Books and authors: “Welcome to the Monkey House” by Kurt Vonnegut, “The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven” by Sherman Alexie. Films: Pretty in Pink, Back to the Future, The Shawshank Redemption, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Musical artists: Aerosmith, Boston, Dire Straits, Tears for Fears.

i like the second much more. the first comes off as a little too much…haughtiness, i don’t know.

I think they give you the small amount of characters for the sole reason of making it short and to the point. If they wanted you to list every favorite AND why, then they would give you enough for a short essay.

I did mine in a list format.

I did mine in the list. Also, remember: even though you are given 250 or however many characters, the directions clearly state that you can use no more than 2 lines. With that said, I think your first reply might be a bit long (though I could be wrong – ha! I just rhymed xD)

My sentences were staccato, but it flowed well and sounded good.
