Stanford Promotional Mail After Submitting application Question

I submitted my Stanford app two weeks ago. Today, after their application deadline, they sent me an 80 page Stanford brochure thing.

My parents are freaking out thinking this means Stanford is interested in me. They are celebrating it like an acceptance letter. I, on the other hand, am a bit more skeptical. I think every applicant receives one.

What does this packet mean? Has anyone else received one? Does every applicant receive this?

It means absolutely nothing

This means they want you to attend. If they accept you. Which is what they’d like any applicant to do.

Don’t read anything into it, and tell your parents to calm down, because the numbers say there’s a 97-98% chance they’ll be wrong.

that brochure, given your parents reaction, was like Stanford sending you Aladdin’s lamp! Since they now assign a low probability to you attending any other school (you will enroll if accepted, right?) now is the time to get generous promises of how they’ll help you thru college (tuition, greek life, maybe a car) at second-choice U if Stanford doesn’t take you. Its easy to get people to write checks they never expect to be cashed…

You are right to be skeptical. It is not a sign that you will be admitted. Make sure your parents understand that.

I got that thing too. I didn’t apply to Stanford.

I also got a BMW catalog in mail.
