Stanford recruited athlete

My son is an athlete. He visited Stanford on an official recruiting visit. Following the visit he was offered a place by the coach, which he accepted. He has completed an application online on the Stanford portal. How long does it normally take for Stanford admissions to approve his application once all the required documents and references are uploaded?

Is this for Fall 2026 entry? Regardless, the coach is the one who will be able to answer this question, or the athletic recruiting liaison (not sure Stanford has someone in that role.)

  1. The coach has said “ a few weeks”, but keen to hear anyone that has had first hand experience.

Stanford only uses the common app, and the 2027 common app won’t be available until Aug 1 of this year. Did your son perhaps submit materials for an academic pre-read, rather than a formal application?

Stanford does have a formal application process for recruited student athletes that opens in the Spring of junior year.

Thanks! Not surprised to hear Stanford has a unique pathway/timing for athlete apps as other schools have that also.

Regardless, the coach will be the best person for OP’s S to ask about the timeline. What another student-athlete experienced might not be applicable.

Same situation here with my son. He accepted the coach’s verbal offer a month ago, spent the next few weeks working through the prescreening and approval process for his senior schedule, organizing recommendation letters, etc. with the the coach (who then was sharing the information with the Athletics Admissions Liaison, we are told). My son received the final green light and submitted his application a few days ago. We are told by the coach that it takes between 2 weeks (10 business days) and one month for recruited/ vetted/ pre-screened athletes to hear back from the Stanford Admissions Dept. once all facets of the application are submitted (including each teacher’s/ counselor’s recommendation letters) for recruits.
