After looking at practically every SCEA student profile, I’ve drawn the conclusion that most SCEA admits concentrate more on how ‘special’ they are, such as their ethnicity (URM), socioeconomic status, and atheletes than does Stanford in the RD round.

I’m applying '09, and I wanted to know if my assumption was true. Thank you!

i think it might just be that stanford looks for a diverse student body so if u can demonstrate what u would add to that diversity then it helps. im sure there were thousands of applicants who talked about computer tech or nanotechnology etc,but only one talking about living with family in the slums of tanzania as a child (me). so if u can demonstrate ur uniqueness then u have an advantage.

i think the biggest thing i noticed was that they were looking for lots of people who were good at specific things… like really well lopsided people. that way, if they are all put together, they have a really well rounded class. secondly, they take a few well rounded individuals as “glue people…” if that’s what you can call them i guess ahaha.

so yeah i agree with premierbush, uniqueness is really, REALLY valued (yay! again, stanford ftw).
