seriously what the F is up with the calgrant page? I seriously could rip the calgrant ppl a new one.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about since I’m not a California resident, but it might help for other Californians to chime in about any changes in their Calgrant application. Maybe we could try to discern a pattern? Lol, we probably sound desperate right now trying to seek out any possible signs of a decision.

cal grant is tripping. it’s supposed to be updated tomorrow, so hang tight and check then (along with your berkeley decision if you applied…)

oh p.s. i just had enough with the cal grant thing so I called them (21 minutes on hold). It is going thru a system maintanance that is why its all jacked up going backwards.

The reason why stanford showed up on our cal grant lists is for no other reason than that we mustve listed it on fafsa as first before the other schools like berkeley or whatever cal school u applied for finaid to.

One is awarded only one cal grant to one school. If by chance you do not get into that school, u will have the chance to change that cal grant award to the school of your choice that was listed on fafsa. after the update is done. So if u end up going to berkeley, u will log into the page and change the grant to berkeley.
TOO BAD for us it was not a heads up on decision leaks.

what’s a calgrant?

Why are you guys so worried about your CalGrants? I’m waiting for mine too, but it doesn’t have a thing to do with our Stanford decisions, so I don’t get this whole discussion.

Crdnlnwhte: I can’t speak on behalf of the California residents but I can explain the logic behind the Calgrant discussion based on my experience with my state’s equivalent.

Two weeks ago I got a letter from my state government saying that I was ineligible for state aid because Stanford University is not an approved institution. I applied to other schools as well but the letter only mentioned Stanford. So, one would be inclined to say that Stanford made their decision (maybe even an acceptance) on your application because why would the state say that your are ineligible for aid if you don’t even attend that university?

Obviously, this was wishful thinking on my part and it turns out that the only reason Stanford showed up in my letter was because it happened to be the first school listed on my FAFSA.

I think something similar happened with the Calgrant. So that’s the semi-link between Calgrants and decisions. Hope that clears something up.

there we go, thanks for the clarification killa killa [:

i still don’t understand the significance of a “calgrant” and why this “calgrant” is important…

Alright, I have never had experiences with anything like this, but i am pretty sure i figured it out. So maybe another outsiders explanation will help?
So calgrant I am guessing is some sort of california state scholarship fund that california residents can apply for to help pay for school. So, these california residents applied for CalGrants and registered that they were applying to Stanford. The CalGrant website, currently under maintenance and not fully functional, indicated to said students that their calgrant was approved for Stanford. This indication, though, was false and due to the maintenance going on. Said students did not know that this was the case, though, and took the message that their calgrants were approved for Stanford meant that they got in, and fittingly were quite hopeful and ecstatic.
I hope this helps, and is accurate to the actual circumstances.

southerncali, calgrant is free money for california students who have the right gpa.

i think you have to have gone to a california high school, but i can’t remember.

ok cool. i understand now. that’s a nifty little thing we have going considering we are in a huge budget deficit.

totally, it’s dumb, but cal grants have been around forever. good luck getting the hippies to give it up.

i feel okay about taking them because lord knows the state has taken PLENTY of my tax dollars; i’m basically paying myself back.

wow ilivefree, 3.89 gpa and my score is below cutoff. i got no money from ca

what’s that, jgee? cal grant didn’t give you any money?

Stanford is making my heart flutter…

nevermind, i get it. my cal grant says the same thing, “not awarded”. that’s very bizarre.

i looked online and it appears that they have a cut off limit based on quality of the applicant pool. apparently, my hs gpa is probably the disqualifier as i only had a 2.91.

basically, we didn’t “make the cut” compared to other applicants. very strange. especially with your 3.89. i have a 3.59

maybe they only gave money to 4.0 + ab540 + cali hs + living with parents + whatever else that makes you unfortunate.

Best of luck guys.
