the article is confusing… but it sounds like she was held up for 5 hours, questioned and released into the US.
We’re being quietly advised by my department not to travel outside of the country regardless of citizenship.
Because my department has one of the few Arab and Muslim Studies programs in the country, we have many students from Muslim majority countries.
These are horrifying times.
So she was delayed, it all worked out, not sure what the story is here. We are delayed when we travel to other countries, it happens. Media at work.
What an ignorant statement. Here’s a story of me entering the US about a year ago before Trump was elected. We’re an Asian family, and my dad works for the government in the US Army Corp. of Engineers. We’re overseas on OFFICIAL business, so we all have OFFICIAL passports. The customs officer was White, and asked us why we have official passports. Why is he asking us why we have official passports, instead of processing them and letting us through? Because he was being a racist prick. We were held up in customs for three hours because a customs officer wanted to know why we had red passports instead of blue ones.
If I’m detained at an airport because of my race, gender, or religion, it’s WRONG. 9/11 HAPPENED 16 YEARS AGO. The United States is a country of IMMIGRANTS! Being detained for thirty minutes? Yep, totally fine. FIVE HOURS? Racist. Bigotry. America is shifting back to the ways of the Know-Nothing Party in the 1800s (and yes, people today literally know-nothing).
