Stanford Waitlist Class of 2024

@bobozeak On the Princeton waitlist thread, someone just claimed to know someone who got the waitlist. It might actually be happening this early.

I committed to Amherst College and I applied as a bio major (definitely changing and taking advantage of their interdisciplinary major program). I haven’t heard back from Stanford, but I’m keeping hope alive!

Can anyone else confirm that they’ve already started taking people off?

Still skeptical. It would be unheard of for Stanford to take someone who’d been rejected by UCI and CalPoly SLO.
I think someone is messing with you.

if they’re a computer science major, it’s not completely out the question. I know stanford is the better cs school, but they admit to the university ,not the major.

also majority of this chat is a bio major, its insane

Yes I’m skeptical too! I really think stanford will announce as it traditionally does: second week of May.

Yeah definitely sketch, especially since that guy was instate. Really unlikely that they’d take instate people off before out of state.

I think there’s a fairly decent chance it’s true. Various other ivies and T20s started using the waitlist today. However, I definitely think many more people will be admitted from the waitlist. Yield seems to be lower at elite schools across the board.

Has anyone else heard today?

I haven’t heard anything either from my end or from other waitlisted people.

I haven’t heard anything from Stanford

I haven’t heard anything but wanted to relate an awesome thought from a family friend. “Congratulations on being waitlisted at Stanford. This means you’ve been accepted, they just haven’t found a spot for you yet.” That sure feels better than “you’re one of 800 on our waitlist and in past years we’ve accepted 0 to a few dozen.”

A girl in my penn groupchat left saying she got off stanford waitlist, so they prob took off a couple kids. It most definitely won’t be the last wave though.

Maybe Stanford did something different this year, but I feel like it’s very unlikely that anyone’s heard back yet. If the deadline to reply to the waitlist offer was yesterday at 11:59, how could they already be making decisions? Also, they always have the highest yield rates, so it’s doubtful that they would need to pull as many people off the waitlist to start offering spots before the deadline to respond to the waitlist offer. They’ve also never taken people off of the waitlist this early-it always happens the second week of May like clockwork.

@ugafan2024 I don’t think it’s that unlikely. It’s been happening for tons of universities that typically go to the waitlist in mid-May.

I wonder if they find out through email or a phone call or an update to their portal

Fair enough. I guess they could be deviating from releasing them in waves then?

@Youngboy2019 what day did the person in the Upenn chat get off stanfords waitlist?

Friday afternoon she said she “recently got off her top schools waitlist (Stanford).” She left the chat immediately after that.
