Stanley Cup playoffs 2013!

I probably had it (NBCS) and just didn’t know. Is that the newish one that is supposed to have English soccer (football) beginning in August?

We get so many different channels, gloworm, I don’t even know what some of them are and never watch them. The sports ones we know, because sports are popular in our house. It’s interesting, I know that a lot of U.S. cable packages now include TSN and Hockey Night in Canada.

NBCS used to be Versus, if that helps any.

Didn’t hear about English soccer coming to the channel, but that would be cool.

I used to get Versus on channel 603. The NBCS is coming in on 220. I have a double DirecTV satellite so we can get soccer from just about any league in the world, in more than one language.

NBC recently out bid Fox to get the English Soccer. Supposedly they will put on Game on live/week on free NBC, and others on the “family” of NBC networks. Those are not free unless you have a certain kind of package.

Come on, Sharks, make it an exciting third period!

First of all the championship ring: It is entirely possible that the players get a “better” ring than staff. I know that Ms. Ellebud has said that if someone wants a ring too (boyfriend, brother, or father) she can purchase another for $5000. Definitely NOT a ring that is designed to lose money for the organization.

As for the Kings versus the Sharks…game 7…we had a lovely evening. Watched a little television, had some tea…did I mention…we won.

Congratulations to your Kings, bevhills.

I’ve switched my allegiance to the Hawks because I think they have the best chance of beating the Kings and then the Pens.

CardinalFang: Is this sort of like my UCLA friends who say…“I’m for UCLA and any other team who are playing USC?” We are really nice people…we Southern Californians.

Kidding aside it was a great series. And everyone in my family feared the Sharks. They really are a great team. It was a struggle. Next year?

Well, according to my local paper, ice conditions today may not be optimal for tonight’s game, due to high temps in Chicago (high predicted 89) and the recent Stones concert.

Whatever, the Kings await, congrats to them.

CF, we welcome all fans!

We Northern Californians have a natural rivalry with Southern California. Secession is sometimes mentioned.

I thought the series was very very even and could have gone either way. But the Kings managed to get the victory, so congratulations to them.

Wow, Tortorella just got canned.

To be read with a snotty tone: Yes, I have heard of the secession movement. When I was a child I was dragged to Northern California to live for2 1/2 years. We lived in San Mateo…my mother called it a cowtown. We were then rescued  and moved back to Los Angeles. Although you may think that I am a crustaetion…I live with 3 miles of where I grew up.

And yes, it was a really good game. My hockey friends and family were truly worried. San Jose was amazing.

It depends on what you like. I love riding my bike on empty roads, being in the redwoods, and pursuing nerdy pursuits with other nerds, and hate cars, smog and traffic. Los Angeles has nothing at all that I like, and when I am forced to be there, I leave as soon as possible. But different strokes for different folks; obviously a lot of people are in Los Angeles voluntarily.

I have to admit to not “understanding” LA as a “city” in the classic sense of what I understand to be a city. Now, I know there are people who think LA is a city, but I don’t see it.

To me, it’s just a loose amalgamation of suburban sprawl type places and gated places and it always takes twenty minutes to get from one place to the other, from anywhere. And you always drive. For me, a city is a place where you walk or take a car service.

carry on.

CardinalFang: I suppose that this is a mother to daughter thing: When I was 6ish we went to Yosemite. We got out of the car and started walking. All around us there were people ooohing and ahing over the redwoods. My mother turned to us and said, "If I see another f***ing tree I’ll vomit.

Going forward many years: We were in North Carolina for a tennis tournament. Ms. Ellebud called to find out where we were. She kept asking for an address so she could google it. She wouldn’t take the answer that there were trees all around us. No signs, no roads, no buildings. She screamed at me, just give me the address.

I finally said, no street but the phone was 1 800 another f***ing tree.

Oh…I can walk anywhere. My car, 5 years old, gets 1000 miles a year. And yes, it can look like we aren’t a city. Just don’t say anything nasty about anyone…there is 1 degree of separation for all of us.

OK, when we secede, we’ll take Yosemite. We’ll take the coast redwoods too, the tall kind of redwoods we have where I live. You can have Anza-Borrego and the Angeles Crest.

Speaking for me only: Thank you for Angeles Crest…and the anza Borrego…I haven’t to my knowledge been there. But ok…

I’m not predicting a win for the Hawks tonight, But Savard singing during the 7th inning at the Cubs/Sox game can only be a good omen, no?

Cubs won.

I’ll admit, going into this series I thought we didn’t have a chance. The Wings have a lot of rookies who are making a lot of mistakes but they’ve somehow pulled out the wins when they had to. I didn’t think they had a chance against the Hawks. I think they would have benefited from a full season but with the half season, the team didn’t have time to gel as a team. Half a team of seasoned veterans and half a team of rookies… truly an odd mix. Our hockey is much scrappier with much less finesse than we are used to.

All that said, now that we’re at Game 7, I am thinking it could go either way. Obviously, we were each able to win 3 games. So, I’m going to hope for the best for the Wings and try not to be too terribly disappointed if we don’t win. Whichever way it goes tonight, we put up a great fight!

I’m so beyond disappointed that I can’t watch the game. I don’t get off work until midnight and no TV and terrible internet here :(
