My Wings look like absolute crap.

Well, despite their absolute best efforts to blow it, my Wings pulled it off in OT :). Go Wings!

Good for your Wings, romani! I didn’t see any of their game. Watched the Ottawa/Montreal game mostly and it was a good one but frustrating for the Habs who outshot the Sens 50-31 and also lost one of their great young players to a vicious hit. The Sens goalie was spectacular.

Also watched some of the Caps/Rangers, switching back and forth. Holtby was great in goal. Boy oh boy, the Rangers have some big guys on that team. It’s nice to see Adam Oates and the Caps peaking at the right time. These teams always seem to have exciting playoff series, almost every year.

Crosby is going to be in the Pens line-up tonight. Just what the Islanders want to hear.

^ Not to name-drop or anything, but I once played pickup basketball with Adam Oates back in college.

I’m very sad that Columbus didn’t make the playoffs. I used to work for an OHL team and worked during the golden years of Boll and Seguin (among a lot of others) and Columbus has a lot of ex-Whalers so they have a soft spot in my heart.

I’m incredibly frustrated. For whatever reason, Fox Sports has completely dropped off my tv. ALL of their stations. Comcast can’t figure it out. I’ve been watching the games at local bars… which is not what I want to do at 10:00 at night

soccerguy315 checking in to once again root for my beloved Caps and hope they don’t crash out of the playoffs. This is the first time in forever I have thought the Caps actually have a better coach than the other team. Oates is very intelligent and analyzes the game VERY well and is excellent at breaking down tape.

The Caps looked excellent in Game 1. The compete level was high and they were punching back. They also didn’t fold when the Rangers got the lucky goal to open the game after the Caps out played them for the first period. This is not the same Caps team that got by a few years ago on pure talent. They now have a functional hockey system and are playing very good hockey as a team.

Oates got Ovechkin to buy-in to a move to the right wing and changing his style of play, and he is putting up numbers that he hasn’t for the last 2 seasons. He should be the favorite to lead the league in goals again next year, which is huge after it looked like his days of being a top point producer and goal scorer might be over.

The Caps are still weak on defense. But, they have Steve Oleksy, who is a 27 year old rookie. I love to hear about these guys that bounce around for years and they finally get a break: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/03/sports/hockey/steve-oleksy-capitals-rookie-tastes-2-extremes-of-nhl-life.html?_r=0

I think the Caps have a really good chance NEXT year, after a full year with Oates.

This is slightly off topic, but the Whalers had one of the best logos in spots. The white H, the green W, and the blue whale tale… pure genius: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/70/Hartford_Whalers_Logo-79-92.svg/220px-Hartford_Whalers_Logo-79-92.svg.png

As Oates’ college coach used to say, he had the skating speed of a backup goalie. So he made his Hall of Fame career on the strength of his brain. And the softest hands ever. He was an assist machine.

I loved when he was on the Bruins. So fun to watch.

Soccer, that’s actually a different team lol. (I can’t tell if you knew that from the post)

S2 and I were at the game the night the Caps clinched over Ottawa. It was made all the sweeter because we got tickets for $30 each!

Yes, soccerguy, that’s the Hartford Whalers logo, the WHA team started by a friend of my Dad’s, Howie Baldwin. Eventually, they became the Carolina team. I think the Whalers that romani means is the OHL Plymouth Whalers team. They’ve produced a lot of talented players.

Well, Montreal came back strong and beat Ottawa, even with three of their regulars out from injuries sustained in Game 1. I didn’t watch any of the other games but did see highlights of Pittsburgh/Islanders and Sidney looked strong. Unfortunately, he and Malkin can’t do it all. Sounds like the San Jose/Vancouver game was an exciting one, and the Sharks take a 2-0 lead in the series with an OT win.

Adam Oates is an interesting guy, kind of the antithesis of the stereotypical athlete. He’s widely respected for his intelligence, and he really was one of the great ones to watch as a player, with his sometimes amazing playmaking skills.

Well, I haven’t seen much hockey this year, but every night the news lets us know about our Blackhawks. It seems I’m the only 'Hawks fan here, so I will represent.

2-0 in opening series, come on Blackhawks! There is real belief that they can go all the way, but I won’t be in the western hemisphere after the beginning of June, so I’ll take the time now to congratulate the eventual winner.

The 'Hawks are scary good. I just want the Mild to steal one.

The Sharks/Nucks game was indeed exciting. The Sharks were outplayed for large portions of the game-- the second, and most of the third-- but Niemi kept them in the game, and then on the 6-on-5 they managed to score the tying goal. And then RAFFI TORRES scored the OT winner.

I wasn’t happy about that Torres trade, but after the OT goal last night, I was looking at things from a different point of view. (When that goon puts on your teams’ sweater, suddenly he doesn’t look so goonish.) I think Torres knows that the next time he headhunts, it’ll be his last play in the NHL. So far he’s been behaving himself. I hope it continues.

you know, I realized later after I posted that you probably referencing a minor league or junior team, but by then it was too late… hahaha

Caps looked great today in Game 2.

Rangers goalie, perhaps the best in the world, kept them in the game and the Caps flubbed a couple chances that would’ve been goals 95% of the time.

Caps killed 2 penalties near the end of the game, in the 3rd period and OT and really took it to the Rangers in OT.

I had a big crush on Adam Oates when he was a Red Wing.

I love Plymouth Whalers games! They are so fun. They’re owned by Karmanos, who owns the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Wings are in a weird place this year. We have some of our great veterans but we have a lot of inexperienced guys too. They have talent, but they may not be ready for playoff pressure. Tonight’s game was awful
We’re really lacking consistency. The refs were … interesting… tonight with quite a few controversial calls.

The Leafs came back strong after that awful Game 1 and beat the Bruins 4-2 last night. The team that had entertained us so often during the shortened regular season was back and it was an exciting game. Kessel finally got a goal against his former team, and it was the winner. This team, with 15 players who are in the playoffs for the first time, is a fun one to cheer for when they’re working hard and playing to their potential. Randy Carlyle has done a good job with them this year. They’re back in Toronto and we’re all looking forward to the game tomorrow night.

What I saw of the Caps/Rangers yesterday was pretty exciting, end of third and OT. The Caps are looking good.

Games on tv here all day today. Penguins/Islanders at noon. Chicago/Minnesota at 3. Montreal/Ottawa at 7. Sharks/Canucks at 10.

Late to this thread…but Go Caps!!!

Sent from my DROID RAZR using CC

Go Kings!!!

…since I MUST watch hockey now, I might as well watch winners. Go Kings!

I’m rooting for Kings in 7 with a lot of punishing overtimes. And come on, Wild, you can steal one.
