Odd game. Couldn’t figure out if LA was worried about NY speed or if they were surprised by it. I was impressed by NY’s ability to control the puck and by LA’s ability to work in and around the net. I see LA had more hits and more turnovers. NY’s forecheck was superior, with LA often retreating toward its goal under pressure and then failing to clear the blue line. The LA defense usually skates with the puck a lot and they were definitely under pressure from the faster forwards.

So many goals in the playoffs are scored as flukes/turnovers.

I agree, lergnom, it was an odd game. Some sloppy play on both sides as they got used to each other’s game. That game could easily have gone the other way. Hagelin could have won it for the Rangers a few times. Lundquist was spectacular once again.

Loved seeing four Canadian boys singing the U.S. national anthem!

Surprising notes: Usually fans wear (for all teams) team shirts or jerseys. Not so much last night. Ms. Ellebud was, of course, there. The rest of us were at home eating and watching. Note: Boyfriend, who we love for many reasons) insisted on bringing dinner. Excellent.

Saturday night game here. But we are going to an engagement party and eating at the party. Go Kings!

I am not much for New York teams in general, but I have to say that I really like the play of these Rangers. They are a darn good hockey team. The Kings may be too, for all I know. I am not certain I have seen the Kings play since Wayne Gretzky was in uniform.

It’s not like I have such warm feelings for LA teams, either, except for the Shaq/Kobe Lakers at their finest, the Lew Alcindor UCLA teams, any UCLA team playing USC, and the Clippers and Angels in general because no one liked either of them while I was growing up, and the Clippers started out as what was left of the Buffalo Braves, which I had followed.

Bumping this thread up - don’t think we need two Stanley Cup threads, do we? We’re pulling for the Rangers to win tomorrow night, just so there’s more hockey to watch. Our house was pulling for the Habs to advance so we don’t really have a dog in this fight any longer. Kings are well organized, a strong team.
