@alwaysamom, they didn’t eat their Wheaties? Carolina got really nasty and physical after Svechnikov went down and the Caps lost their bearings. It was really painful to watch. The larger issue is that they have no one to replace Kempny and juggling the lines hasn’t been terribly successful. Putting Carlson on his opposite side renders him less effective, Jansen is still learning the system, Djoos has lost his confidence, Nisky and Orlov aren’t doing as well as last year, etc. Batya (Papa Brooks Orpik), however, is doing great!
The local talking heads aren’t terribly worried about this series. I can only hope that having been embarrassed last night and seeing TB and the Pens swept out tonight will help them refocus and get serious. When Trotz was named the Isles’ new HC last summer, he said if the Caps repeat, they’d have to “go though the f*&^%$ Island.” Well, that’s the next round. That will be an intense matchup.
But first, time to send the Hurricanes out to sea!
I get tired just watching playoff double overtime. Perhaps because I forget to breathe.
Sharks are back in it, and now the teams come back to San Jose for Game 7, where I expect them to break my heart again.
Toronto, also, is on to game 7, and again in Boston. Yesterday was disappointing but also exciting. I’ve never heard, or seen, the arena so loud (which I don’t actually enjoy!) So many people stood for most of the game, also not enjoyable. Tomorrow night’s game is going to be a nailbiter. Can we do it this year?
I couldn’t stay up to watch the Sharks game, @“Cardinal Fang” I was pleasantly surprised when I heard they won it in OT. And short-handed, no less!
Will the Predators and the Hurricanes push their series’ to a 7th game tonight?
I stayed up through 2 OT last night! S1 lives in San Jose, though he cares nothing for sports of any stripe. Would be nice If Thornton can get a good whack at the Cup before hanging up his skates.
Caps game 6 tonight – hope Backy scores first again! Siegenthaler and Carlson was a good D pairing.
It is amazing how all the WC teams are winning.
When the Sharks get mad, they sure get even!
Never been much of a hockey fan. But Go Sharks!
Happy for you, @“Cardinal Fang” !
A disappointing night for Leaf fans. Oh well. Now, who to cheer for going forward.
We Sharks fans are inured to disappointment. Toronto fans even more so. But playoff heartbreak is new to the Vegas.
Should the 5 minute major have been a 2 minute minor? Well, maybe, but IMO the fact that the horrific injury occurred to the home team meant that the officials were always going to call that. That’s why you want home ice: for Game 7.
And the Sharks were mad. They saw their captain lying unconscious on the ice in a pool of blood, and they were furious. Joe Thornton went back to the bench and said, You guys go out and get three (bleeping) goals right now. Logan Couture scored six seconds into the major, turned to the bench, put up one finger and snapped, “That was one.” That furious yet workmanlike intensity is hard to stop.
Gallant’s a whiner who should shut up.
The Sharks looked like they were skating in quicksand in the overtime. Except Goodrow, who was on the ice for three Vegas goals in regulation and, as far as I can tell, played barely any other shifts in regulation. Playing six minutes in regulation and being -3 is not stellar, but it’s all forgiven now.
@“Cardinal Fang” - any updates on Pavelski’s injury?
I’ve found nothing on Pavelski’s condition so far.
Me neither.
It looked horrible.
Bye bye Caps. 'Canes move on.
All four #1 seeds lost. All 4 WC teams won.
I was kind of looking forward to a Caps/Isles series. Trotz against his old team.
We don’t get a night off to recover from that long OT. Bruins/Jackets and Stars/Blues start tonight!
What does WC mean here?
[on edit]Oh, wild card. I thought, Western Conference? That makes no sense. West Coast? Can’t be that. It’s better to spell out abbreviations so everyone knows what you’re talking about.
On the Pavelski injury front, Lucas Radil said, “I think he’s good. After the game, he came into the locker room to celebrate with us. He’s a tough guy. I think he’s coming back pretty quickly.”
So, he wasn’t rushed to the hospital with a skull fracture or anything like that. I’m less worried about how soon he comes back, and more worried about whether he’ll make a full recovery. Hopefully he will.
