I assumed West Coast - but since my Caps lost, I decided I didn’t really care. I’m hoping this isn’t the start of another couple decades of frustration - maybe winning it all last year has spoiled me.
By the way, I saw the replay of that 5 minute major penalty, and I can understand why Vegas was upset. It was certainly a penalty and a truly unfortunate injury, but I don’t think it warranted more than a 2:00 minor.
Looking at the 5 minute major with the benefit of instant replay, I agree that a 2 minute minor would have been a more appropriate call. But the refs don’t have instant replay, and looking at a player cross-checked to the ice, unconscious in a pool of blood, they’re going to make that call every time.
In any case, with a league-standard 80% penalty kill, a team is expected to score 5/9ths of a goal on a five minute major, not four goals. That’s on the Knights. Allowing a short-handed goal in double overtime in the previous game is also on the Knights.
I didn’t see the penalty live but did read that he’d been hit in the face and a bloody mess. I didn’t see much of a penalty, just an odd fall when I watched the replay during the OT. He was never hit in the face at all, just a cross–check. All the announcers were silent on it during the OT, no calls for Eakin’s head or that he should be out of the league.
Looks like the Sharks scored the first two out of the four power play goals within the first two minutes (actually first minute). Penalty started at 9:13, power play goals at 9:20, 10:09, 12:53, 13:21.
@ucbalumnus I’m not sure why that matters. If the penalty was called as a 2:00 minor, the player is released from the penalty box after any power play goal. That’s generally why a five minute major is reserved for only the most obviously dangerous infractions. Not only is that penalty for a full five minutes, but the penalized player (or whoever is serving the penalty on his behalf) is stuck there for the entire time, regardless of how many extra man goals are scored.
I like Trotz, so will probably follow along with those games. Couldn’t bear to listen to the local sports radio dissection today. The Caps had it, but couldn’t finish it. They really missed Oshie and Kempny, Kuzy was largely absent and Eller/Vrana/Connolly weren’t the usual 3rd/4th line excellence that they’d claimed late in the4 season. No complaints about Ovi and Backy; they were hungry.
If bruins can pull it off. That’s three championship teams in Boston in one year. Not likely but wouldn’t that make America happy to see another duck boat parade ?
IIRC, they were only playing out on the Island for the first two games of the first round. Maybe due to NBA playoffs? There was serious mojo for those two games.
@privatebanker My family is looking forward to another parade here in Boston! And yes you are right most of America will not be happy with all the winning going on here! Its been a fun ride so far!
I wouldn’t start planning the parade yet, Bruins fans. They barely got by the Leafs in 7 games. Game 1 against the Jackets went to OT. They’ll need 11 more wins!
I couldn’t stay up for the Sharks game but was happy to see this morning that they had won.
Luckily, the Sharks have two Joes. Joe Pavelski is sadly missed, but Joe Thornton’s line gave the Avs fits and got three goals. The old man still has something in his bag of tricks.
