Staring at a giant blank wall...

Well, last night, half of the girls on the floor got the room rearranging bug. When we arrived, our dorms were arranged in very sterile and utilitarian fashion, and it eventually got to even me, which is saying something. (I’m very utilitarian myself.)

I LOVE the way I have my room arranged now, but due to moving my wardrobe I now have this giant blank wall with nothing on it except this dinky little calendar. I really want to think of something to spruce up the wall, but I’m really broke. I could just buy three posters (which would still be pretty widely spaced), but I want to see if there is anything cheaper I could do with the wall instead that doesn’t involve paying 20 to 30 bucks for thin sheets of paper.

By the way, my school does not allow tapestries or fabric of any sort on the walls, so that is, much to my personal dismay, out of the question.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

How about one of those string spiderwebs you made in elementary school, pins and string wound round and round and back and forth to make a big spiderweb art piece? If you used embroidery thread you could add color? Sewing pins are very thin and would only leave a small hole…

If you used some math to design it maybe you could even get extra credit?

Well… on allposters.com they’re having a poster sale. I use that website a lot to decorate my room. They’re pretty cheap, especially while they’re on sale and it’s free shipping if you order more than $10 worth of posters.

…Pretty sweet if you ask me.

My roommate and I have glow in the dark stars on our walls (my idea) and wall stickers (her idea). These are the ones she has [DwellStudio™ for Target® Wall Decals - Zoo : Target](http://www.target.com/DwellStudio-Target-Wall-Decals-Zoo/dp/B000WE0M16/qid=1222028618/ref=br_1_7/602-1104996-8618209?ie=UTF8&node=13161261&frombrowse=1&rh=&page=1) I plan on getting these ones, though. [Stripe and Polka Dot Wall Decals : Target](http://www.target.com/Stripe-Polka-Dot-Wall-Decals/dp/B0014W2MAO/sr=1-19/qid=1222028883/ref=sr_1_19/602-1104996-8618209?ie=UTF8&pricerange=&index=target&field-browse=13035431&rh=k%3Awall%20stickers&page=5) Target is good for that sort of jazz. They’re kind of “childish”, but there’s nothing wrong with that.

If you get free newspapers you could always cut out some pictures that you like, like of your school’s football team or something.

You could print out pictures from facebook and make a picture wall. My friend does that, and her and her roommate are constantly adding to it. It seems like a lot of fun.

Yeah that’s what I did…I have tons of pictures up on my walls because I hate blank walls.

My roommate does the facebook thing, too. Like, she prints out bumper stickers, pieces of flair, actual pictures, all that good jazz. It’s kind of neat. Eats up her ink, though. :p

trace government conspiracies

take a naked picture of yourself, have it blown up to life-size, print it on that nice photo canvas from FedEx and use that as a poster

In that instance I think my boyfriend would be the only person willing to enter my room anymore. He thinks I’m gorgeous, but most others would certainly beg to differ.

Thanks for all of the ideas, guys (except the last guy :P). I’ll definitely keep them in mind when deciding what to do.

How about covering the space with butcher paper or other paper cut from a big roll? Keep markers or pens handy and let anyone who comes in write something or doodle. Add to it as the year goes on, you could even tape photos, ticket stubs, etc. until you have a mural/collage of the year.

My daughter and her roommate are both out of state and they have a road map of Texas on the biggest blank wall in their room. 90+% of the kids are their college are from Texas so D and R have people show them, on their map, where they are from. Learning a little Texas geogaphy.

Would a $4 road map of your college state or of the U.S. be fun?

That’s what my roomies and I are doing :)

you could just print out some photos on nice photo paper too and use it as a mini poster?
