Starting a research project as a high schooler?

I was wondering how you’d go about doing this. I’m really interested in fight science and psychology (MMA is a big deal in my city lol), and I would like to learn more about the subject and how it relates to the fight or flight response. What would the process be in starting a project like this since I’m still in high school? How would I get funding and a professor to mentor me in constructing the project? Should I even be thinking about this right now or should I wait until college before trying to start a project? Will I even be taken seriously?

It’s early in the morning right now and I’m probably not thinking straight but I thought hey it’s worth a shot to ask the internet lol

You should research ongoing projects. No org will send money to you in the form of a grant. What you want to do is scour exercise related science or medical journals (orthopedics,e.g.) and hope that someone is working in a lab near you. Then email the lead researcher with your resume and your willingness to be their lackey/bottle washer – hoping to learn about what they’re doing.

Your interest in fight science is unique but also severely limiting.
