My D was accepted for Fall 2024 at Sonoma State University. She applied with pre-nursing as her first choice but just missed the necessary multi-factor score, and so was admitted as undeclared (her second choice). The website states that being undeclared makes it tough to get into the needed nursing pre-req classes. Our thought is that she could switch to a biology major (which is open and not impacted) and then she would be able to take all the nursing pre-reqs during her first 2 years (most of which are BIO classes anyway). They state that she does not need to be pre-nursing to apply to the nursing program after 2 years, and she would likley apply more widely for nursing school anyway.
Does this seem like a valid plan? The only downside seems to be that she wouldn’t have access to pre-nursing advisors.
She has been accepted to pre-nursing at other schools (Chico State, SF State, Sacramento State), but I just suspect she will like Sonoma once she sees the campus.
